Y key won't work
« on: Wed, 25 July 2012, 19:11:53 »
I just plate mounted my Poker, and everything went smooth. It only took 2 hours, But my Y key won't work. I really don't know why, because the solder is fine. I even tried a different switch. Is there any possibility I fried something?

Did you rip an eyelet or trace? It's possible you may have done one or the other if you weren't careful at any point. I would try using one more new switch just to be sure, if it still doesn't work, inspect the area around that switch for any damage.

Did you try to resolder the diode? You may have damaged the solder on the diode in the process of desoldering.

I'm not sure what you mean by "diode" D'x

Here's a pic. My soldering is not the cleanest :(
(it does't really look that bad in person)

EDIT: the Y solder points look worse than the rest because of desoldering and resoldering in new switches over and over
EDIT 2: I just fixed that ****ty solder point on U

That black square thing right beside D21 is the diode. Also, I would recommend you resolder the joint on U key.

Just put hot iron on it briefly until you see the solder melt. It is important you touch the legs and the metal thing on the PCB at the same time with your iron. Plus, I would recommend you clean out the flux residue using isopropyl.

Here is your problem:

You broke the trace next to the eyelet.

I typically use a trace pen, you can get at Radio Shack, usually. Or you can try to solder it together. Would require much care in doing so, though.

Thanks much for the help! I just used a tiny little piece of wire to bridge it. Works great! typing on it right now :3
