I assume any controller from their current, similar line-up would be compatible with an IBM?

yah. use their support tool (email support@pckeyboard.com) or call. it's not clear to me that they plan on using their forum here again

Since there are like ten different matrix configurations for the 1391401 a swap is unlikely to work unless they are made within a few years of one another...

Ok. I just though I would warn you that not all 1391401 controllers fit all 1391401 keyboards.
