Typing of the Dead 2?
« on: Wed, 22 April 2009, 20:58:59 »
I read that TOTD 2 was released in Japan in 2007. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Typing_of_the_Dead  No sign of a US release from what I can find.

It's the greatest premise for a game, ever. I can't wait for an english release; it's going to be awesome with the hottd III engine.

That looks awesome, too bad it would never sell in the US.  We'd be the only ones buying it.

Y'know, they have gaming tournaments at the local comic conventions; the one I went to last year actually featured Typing of the Dead.  I was disturbed that all-day coding does not translate into success in twitch games.

Me too.  I code all day, I still can't type worth a sh*t.  Maybe it's because I don't type a lot of "real" words.  I type a lot better in English than SQL or VB.NET.  As far as twitch games go, I get bored when I code, so I tend to rather sleep than do something "twitch."

Thanks for those links.  I'm surprised you can't find this game for $15 or lower now days.  $25 for a download seems like a lot.

I am going to try out the original next week (I don't spend much time gaming on weekends, these days) and maybe the demo of 2 as well.

I don't get the reference to Daikatana, though.  Isn't that just a rather mediocre FPS?

I'm a big fan of having TOTD tournaments.  I have a "dream" of opening a gaming cafe someday.  It will have video games and tables for strategy games, pen and paper RPGs, card games, et cetera.  Anyway, a TOTD tournament would be awesome.  It would also allow players to show off awesome keyboards. :)

Yeah, I have been waiting for an awesome Samurai RPG/adventure game.  Bushido Blade I was pretty good, but it needs a graphical update.  I love Kurosawa films and always get the urge to play an awesome Samurai RPG.

Does TOTD2 take into consideration the space bar? I know with the japanese to english port over they did with totd1 did away with requiring a space bar to complete your phrases

You're not kidding about the repetitiveness, I uninstalled it after about 10 minutes of gameplay. I think Mario teaches typing kept my attention longer. The accuracy test seems really cool though, and with the long Japanese script it's challenging.

Shame.. Neither version supports Dvorak (well, at least the demos don't).

Crimsonland also has a mode in which zombies have words over their head that you have to type in order to kill them. I find it very addictive.
