You forgot to spell "Alps" like this: ALPS.  You almost had them all covered.

This would be a nice 'board to harvest replacement keys for those of you with black Dell AT-101Ws.

I think he meant white as in the case color as opposed to the black version I mentioned earlier.

That, and I think he was looking for another spot to insert the word "Alps."

So profound is the effect that Geekhack has had on me than when people start talking about colours in relation to keyboards, I immediately assume they are talking about keyswitches...

That, and Ripster said "White Alps Dell" which is rather misleading.

I think that's a non-ADB keyboard; the ADB ones have round buttons rather than keys for power, volume and brightness, as I recall. And the power button's green.

Nice. You've got to admit that the NeXT concept was pretty neat back in the day.
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

A quick note for those who may be seeking to harvest the keys from this puppy:

There were multiple variants of the NeXT Alps keyboard, and this appears to be the one with the L-shaped enter key and some special characters keys (tilde, pipe, etc.) banished over to the numpad.  (Since they're on a different row, they will likely have a different conformation for their striking angle.)

I believe that makes this the "later" variant.  Another (earlier?) variant has the almost-standard layout, as pictured in the advertisement above.

Are you going straight to sandblasting? I bet at low psi it'd remove all that gunk no problem.

I could have sworn that NextCubes used ADB ports... Maybe it was some early/late production model?

I've used some worn out Alps boards, and the wearing out always managed to be consistent across the board. It was particularly noticable with an AEK II I found where every key felt like a rubber dome switch despite the fact that it definitely had white Alps.

That wouldn't be wear in the classic sense then. Degradation maybe.

Don't these have rubber dampers? That should only affect bottoming out though.

Maybe so. But it didnt click either... I had a good condition AT102W beside it, and it was definitely louder than the AEKII.

ripster,

See if you can source this ps2NeXT converter to use your keyboard. I'm so getting one if that works.
