Proves it indeed is a non-issue that only irritates a select few.

Where did Redpill go?

I am happy to say I have no problems with the Ping Ripster. I ordered another RF 55g. So really its a non issue. Maybe for some people who own cherry boards will come on here to vent some. All I can say is that with my limited experience with the ping (vibration type) with a Linear R (one of them was fine) and then the Mionix it was not acceptable. People should consider just a RMA like I did, or some pads. Pads would be appropriate for people who decide to keep the board, and then continue to whine about it.

Shouldn't that be the rules from now on Ripster?

Actually, I think it's reverse, ironically.  I find there are more Brazilians with bush than Americans.  As long as it's neatly trimmed, I'm OK.  If they're trying to save the rain forests on their cooters, I'm not down.

Now you ARE Welly.

I like where this thread is going.

Real GHers argue about penis size, not ping. Those were the days.

Someone should hijack this thread and turn it into a geekhack crockpot revival.

THAT'S the ping sound?  Really?  I thought all mechanical keyboards did that.  Hell, even my Realforce does that to some degree.  Well, I stand corrected, I guess my Duckys do ping.  Here I was thinking it was some kind of BS-level ping.  In my quiet office area with just a little background noise from the air vent, I can't even hear the ping; I have to put my head next to the keyboard to hear it.  I guess if that bothers you, it's time to give up the mechanical keyboards and go with a rubber dome.  For the love of FSM, please do not get a Model M.  You might get hearing damage or a prescription for Prozac.

My Duckys have been better than either of the Filcos I've owned. No sign of key wear, quiet, little or no ping.  I have one for home and one for work.  You ought to try one.  Don't worry, I won't [strike]snitch[/strike] tell anyone.

i thought we covered this ping issue, if you're physically incapable of hearing the "ping" then you just do not have sensitive hearing and are just getting old. It's no different than being colorblind, you don't see me going around every december going "i do not believe you, i don't believe that the holiday colors are red and green!", i don't see those color's so it doesn't affect me, much like how if you're too old you can't hear the ping, so it will not affect you.

Failing to account for background noise, typing style (this is big from what I have seen in the videos), perception and if the keyboard actually pings, of course.  Assuming all of that, then OK.

I was relieved to find that this thread is about the infamous plate-mounted keyboard ping. Since we're in OT, "Ping" could have been the new FOTM social networking service that I hadn't yet heard of (with an extra stupid name choice to piss off the people using classic ICMP ping no less). Phew.

I couldn't say how pingy any of my plate-mounted boards are, since I haven't used them in a while. Given they're equipped with fairly noisy ALPS(ish) and Futaba switches (with a nasty clacky cursor up on the KB-5182 to boot), pinging would be the least of your acoustic worries anyway. Of course my Model Ms all ping, and all of the 3 are different.
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

I have high doubt that most of the people have a clear idea about the problem.

A pinging switch is a pinging switch, no matter if plate mounted, PCB mounted or not mounted at all.

The problem that affect the filcos, not the plate mounted in general, is a different one.

The ping command is called ping because the analogy with the submarine's sonar, the ping sound is called ping because the onomatopoeia, exactly as the sonar's ping.

Looks fine in both the usages.

More noisy doesn't necessarily mean pinging, my M2 is definitely noisier than my cherry board, but is also definitely less pinging than a pinging cherry switch.

The funny thing is that "Ping" is actually Apple's in-iTunes social network thingy that flopped a couple months ago. :)

I was intrigued but dismayed to hear your Fukka FILCO Zero recording, ripster. I bought a Tactile Pro 3 and "ping" isn't a strong enough word for the horrendous ringing noise that comes out of it. All the videos of the TP3 indicated a gentle ping that sounded cute, but in reality the spring vibration almost drowns out the sound of the clicks.

All the FILCO Zero videos with no ping suggested that Matias's garish case (that is a whole generation behind in Apple's style trends) features equally awful switch mounting (and my XM Zero has a very dry sound without any spring warmth at all), but your recording suggests that the Fukka is just a badly designed switch, even if it does feel pretty decent.

I used to notice ping on my plate-mounted Cherry brown Majestouch, which was a bit annoying, but I always figured that it was to be expected when you attach 105 coil springs to a sheet of steel! I haven't noticed it recently, and I think even the spacebar has stopped squeaking, and the weird rattle in the numpad enter has gone away as fast as it appeared. I just find the switches too light, and in the complete absence of a decent tactile switch (to keep noise level down in an open plan office), I've finally ordered a Realforce …

Well, as far as "ZOMG" problems this seems to have flopped too.

Now the good thing about the Das Transposition Controller error it had staying power for almost two years until Das finally fixed it.

Ah, yes.  I remember when we used to have "real" problems.

Who said I was trolling?  I didn't even mention ping in my post.  You're making **** up now.  I'd go snitch to iMav, but I'm not a *****.

The fact that you're still hyper-sensitive to ping trolling and that ping trolling is still very much alive in at least three threads including this one means it's still very much alive.  Besides that, I have to make up for lost time.

At Deskthority, we don't talk about ping.  It's a non-issue.

I can hear the pinging on my Cherry MX blue, just as I can hear the maddening-for-some ring on my model F.

But most of all, I'm still wondering which of the Cherry blue's sound pallet you find most annoying. The sound is complex and is made up of the clicker, spring, slider, key housing and key cap all interacting with each other, and yet nothing truly out of the ordinary seems to be audible in the video's. Switches have a slightly different click from one to the next, but I wouldn't describe the difference as a different "ping" rather than clicking differently altogether. It is hard to define which is the troublesome bit.

There's ping on Cherry blues? Interesting. I found that the annoying sounds from Cherry browns – ping and the horrible friction scraping – were all absent from the sound of blues; I always wondered ever since I got both, why there's no ping from blues.
