From reading (admittedly a small amount) I thought all of these boards were blacks so I had no interest in them.

Hmm, I would also be interested in getting some. But how does group buy work in this case? You mean group buy for oversea geekhackers?

Well either the group buy would have to be organized and funded within 4 days, or someone would have to front the money.  Then that person would get to ship them all out after receiving them and bill the buyers for their shipping.  That's $63.06 per plus the shipping to each buyer.

I might have been interested, but I think they're also platemounted, so no ergo's here. Therefore my interest has died a horrible death.

I'm pretty sure he was trying to sell them individually and nobody bought them.

What about waiting until the auction has ended without a bid and then wait for the seller relisting at a lower price. The 40 tipros had been listed for a while at 10 EUR per unit and sold now for less than 1.5 EUR including shipping!

It's back.  Starts at $19.99, low low $35 shipping to me.  I wonder if it's coming from the north pole.
Funny. I ship my TG3s for $5 via USPS Priority Mail, $14 sends them anywhere in the world. :)

But anyways, good deal nonetheless if you pay close to the starting bid price.

That was a good deal on the auction for a single board. $65 per board is a good price as well. I might get one if my offer that other cheap POS mx clear board falls through.

My old BL82 and my current Deck keyboard use "FN"+"1" through "FN"+"7" for individual brightness settings. Also you can use "FN"+"Up Arrow" and "FN"+"Down Arrow" to increase or decrease the brightness.

Maybe your PS/2 port doesn't have enough power to power them? Can you try it in another computer?

Sorry it took so long; I have tried it on every PS2 port I've run across. There was absolutely no protection packaging wise except for an anti static bag and the very thin cardboard box it was shipped in. I'm not sure if it was just damaged or what, but I went ahead and sent it back.

Thanks for the help!

« Reply #30 on: Fri, 02 September 2011, 14:27:31 »
very interesting thread..  since it's about my keyboards.
As offered they had the following in the description:
"This keyboard requires +12V nominal at J2 pin 1 or J1 pin 6 (J2 pin 2 or J1 pin 3 is ground) in addition to +5Vdc at pin 4 of J1 from the PS/2 port."
PLEASE make sure this is compatible with your equipment."

12 volts  and "turbocharged" you were right.. it needs more juice to lighten up

NOW that you have the scoop on the keyboard

if you know how to get 12 volts TO LIGHT IT UP, pls get in touch..

If I get an easy "how to" on this I will let you know.

TG3 do not have the incentive to say  splice the cord, find the red cable, get a 12 volt adapter and couple it with the red cable  , for example.  I imagine something like this might make it work.  So the source of the 12 volts is not internal, from the computer, but a 12 volt dc adapter maybe?

so, for all the gurus out there, J2 is which pin on  the PS/2 connector ?
schematic or pic would help.. better yet..
is there a particular cable color associated with that pin number.  I am willing to try it.

I just happen to have this in my clipmate HTH

If there is any of these left I might be interested in one,

as to the PS/2 port I am sure there are a few pins not used and as you have 12+ve
in your computer case it would be a doddle to put a 12volt feed to one of the unused pins.
Smart thing would be to switch it as well so you can still run it as per norm.

Im hesitant to believe they mean the ps2 socket pins...J1 and J2 might be two internal pins on the pcb marked accordingly. Pin 1 on the ps2 is always the data pin, the one your pc will use to read the input. I would be able to understand 2/6.

Seller, do you think you could do us the favor of opening one up and making a picture of the controller PCB?

Yep as said PS/2 pin 1 is always data, but not pin2.
I also dont ever remember seeing/reading anything with a PS/2 layout having pins being called Jn,
and most of the time Jn in PCB is junction number as I am sure you know.

So there would be (IMO) something like a few pins near the PS/2 port or mounting point if they have something like that,
or even a header like the Tipro's have to chain the add on boards.

IIRC these are old bill boards that I expect are/were to be fitted into a car (or whatever) so I expect the 12+ve would be fed from the lamp switch and simple to do.

But as I said 12volts is easy to find from the other end of a PS/2 cable and feed it via an unused cable pin, and the already there ground as return should be ok. the only problem would be if you are running via USB its only 5volts and 500 mA IIRC I never have much to do with USB unless I have to.

I dont have any great love for backlit boards so if I had one I doubt I would get it running,
but I would like to make sure it could be done.

+1 for a guide to get back lighting to work. =P
I don't think I will even use it but I'm bored and need a something to keep me busy while I wait for midterms. I have been thinking about doing something with my Blue ALPS lately....
If you live in AZ you can try my keyboards. I usually keep plenty of different ALPS and MX and buckling springs.

remember...do not resolder the ps2 connector, the pins j1 and j2 are marked on the PCB. If you run +12v on ps2 pin 1 it WILL fry the port and keyboard.
