The system? Well... it was only a failure in the sense that other manufacturers went on to make compatible machines at a fraction of the cost.

The connector? Two words: interrupt driven.

You're right in that it's not that big of an advantage nowadays though. Still, I have had better luck doing the Magic SysRq on PS/2 keyboards than I have on USB ones, so my superstitious side leads me to prefer PS/2...

Hmm, the PS/2 Model 55 and the Model 30 are sexy machines. I'm really thinking about obtaining one and hacking the case so that it can fit an mATX motherboard and an ATX or mATX PSU.

to me, the 80 is sexy.

What annoys me is that they used the 25 to represent the PS/2 line, when arguably it's one of the less propriatery models of the clan, having ISA slots.

Was mentioned in this thread that the MCA bus had no future....but for you piece of trivia for the day, the MCA connector did have a future, and it was known as the PCI bus.

According to what I have read some time ago, the MCA connector was chosen for use on the PCI bus and actually used.

Could be wrong.

hmmm the Commodore 128 was kinda huge back in the days. A lot of people who had C64 bought the C128 only to realize they had to use it in C64 mode to play their games but still... The C128 sold quite well.

According to Wikipedia the Commodore 128 alone saw about 4 million sales... Granted it's only a third to one fourth of the C64 sales, C64 which is considered to be the best selling personal computers of all times but still...

Still according to Wikipedia, the IBM PS/2 was largely unsuccessful with the consumer market (with "only" 2 millions sales during the entire life of the PS/2 line).

So I'm really not sure the top one sold more than the rest combined : )
