Question about my new HHKB Pro 2
« on: Fri, 03 August 2012, 15:46:13 »
Hello,

i don't really know where to ask this question else, but due to the high price of the HHKB Pro (Type-S to be exact) i can't get about it.

Here we go...

While testing my brand new HHKB i've noticed that the bottom right corner (with the logo) creaks a bit while applying a bit more pressure with my fingers on it.

I think this comes due to the fact that the case is just plugged together.

Here is a image of an HHKB (not mine) where you can see the slit getting bigger at the bottom.

No big deal at all, but i would'nt expect that from a keyboard for 450 bucks.  :P

Is it how it is supposed to be?

Thanks,

Askevar

In the before time a great profit proclaimed this to be the "McDoogle effect" (I believe this was the correct designation).  It either had something to do with the rotation of the earth or the perceived quality of something that is priced in a premium, or enthusiast, price bracket but is still subject to the same flaws, abnormalities, and other tolerance related issues that  plague any mass-produced item.
People I've given money to from this webform who never respond to me and have not shipped me anything: ctrlalt.io 1 2, Team Readline Reputable alternatives to GH group buys: http://pimpmykeyboard.com, https://www.massdrop.com,

Interesting, thank you.

It's out of question that there are abnormalities, but anyway it would be interesting to know if that's the norm.

You CAN take it apart and check things out, see how it fits together, and correct any minor problems.  I've had mine apart many times.  Just don't lose any springs or rubber domes!

Yeah i took it apart and checked everything. Seemed pretty normal, nothing broken, it's clean and as i said, the case is just plugged together at the bottom.

Being plastic and the way the cases are put together sometimes there can be some minor movement in the 2 pieces, that's normal. I can see how you'd expect better for the price tag of the HHKB, though.

As you said, the build quality is not superior to, let's say Filco (in my opinion), but the layout, the caps and the feel to type on is pretty good and comfortable.

Just saying.
