Seeing that he's a business man first and foremost, there is no way for MKC to know if you made a copy of the original CAD file to keep for yourself before sending him the modified 7bit one.

I'm still taking orders as long as MKC is making them. If he no longer makes this, I will close this thread.

But since now on, we're back to the 3 people rule. I would send the orders to MKC whenever we have 3 people in.

OH MY GAWD.....

Feng, your case it's just so beautiful....... I've got tears flowing and I look like a mess.  I just don't know what to say........

I completely forgot about this, You have to thank that Hammer...........he's done a superb job.  The man's a genius, with aluminum.

The GREEN is perfect too, it would of matched the CC&G's when they came in, but I'm still hoping they'll show up........soon.

You guys need to get in with this.  Having an all aluminum case done for your Filco, is just absolutely untold.  If he ever gets bored and stops making them then that's it, no more cases.

I suspect the Group Buy's would be cheaper now?

For example, the aluminum nut is not strong enough to last long, so MKC changed it to copper making it durable.

Feng: Looks like brass to me. Good thing, too, as brass is stronger than copper or aluminium.

This is a really nice touch, and I am happy it was included in the design.

Yes, both copper and aluminum are soft. It is probably brass. Nice touch though. Still contemplating getting one here.

Hm... MKC doesn't even know if it's brass or copper. The color looks like brass though.

Wraul and Elrick's cases have been finished. And will be shipped from China soon.

MKC made some horrible color schemes on Elrick's case. -_-

I think tapping holes right into the aluminum is strong enough. C'mon, we're not trying to get a gorilla to rip these apart after you screw the top and bottom together. But adding those brass anchors to make the holes stronger is a nice addition without increasing costs is always welcomed.

I like the fact that they want to increase the quality of the cases which is always good in my books.  This also serves to everyone that MKC manufacture quality products for us manic keyboard lovers.

Hey, hey, hey about the Colour there Feng, Green is what I was after to go with the CC&G's but unfortunately that never happened, now I will most likely fill it with a Grey PBT's or buy the new 2nd version Zinc caps from you.

That way this baby might be all Metal, so out of every catastrophe there is always another brilliant opportunity for us here on Geekhack to find a suitable key-set.  As always Mr. Feng thanks for everything.

Yep, here's the link for the full colour range;

http://www.ralcolor.com/

It gives clear colour number sequences for the exact mix to get your final result.  Careful though you could be there for hours trying to choose which colour you really want.

It also comes down to the lighting because that can influence the final look of the case.  But I'm not fussed, I just wanted something bright Green and it looks like it a bit.  Hence now comes the hard part of waiting for the silver keys to come in.

Remember also the MKC has tried to make it match the 6038 because it wasn't on their chart to produce that colour in the first place.  Hence I suspect they just mixed the colour by eye rather than following the actual specs from the paint manufacturer.

Mixing by eye would explain the discrepancy.

We would be better able to distinguish if its the light that is making the colour look off when you (after grabbing a decent camera) snap some quick ones. Of course, you should strive to keep your drool out of the pictures when you're doing it. Otherwise it might affect the picture and my appetite. :p

Yes the excitement will always distort any image you grab.  The camera is my next pick but as always which one.  I've seen some cheapie's for $100AUD and then there are the Okay ones for $800AUD.  The Super GOOD SLR's come in around $1800 to $2600AUD.

Just got delivered to my front door.

The Green colour reminds me of a shiny "Chirstmas Beetle" that is endemic here in Perth.  It has an almost shiny metallic finish that changes shade as you twist the angles around to view it.

It's the first anodized finish that I've seen to look like this.  Cudos for MKC on doing it.

Can't wait for the Key caps to be finished because they should look alright within this case.

Disassembly shouldn't take too long. Maybe 30 min max? You'll only need a flat head screwdriver or a knife, and a philips head screwdriver. I just took apart this Full size keyboard, but the TKL should be the same concept. This video might help, but skip to about the 7:00 mark for the disassembly:

I'm just waiting to see pics because I'm still on the fence, deciding whether to get this case or not.

Also, if you like to take things apart a lot, one of those little plastic tools with a tapered end is amazing for this.  Example: http://www.ifixit.com/Tools/Home-Tech-Toolkit/IF145-047 (I have one slightly different)

The case has arrived.
And it looks quite nice indeed. Except for some dents on the bottom top corners, most likely caused during shipping. There should have been more padding at the ends of the package.

Not sure if I should post a picture since all I have is my phone. And the pictures look like... not so good.
I was going for a rather dark grey color that would work with any keycap colors I might want to use.
And I believe I almost achieved the right color. It might be slightly to dark and with a slight hint of blue.

My intention is to attempt to put a Phantom in this case.
As I have yet to solder a single of my Phantoms (haven't even bought the soldering equipment), I don't know for sure if it will fit.
Though after trying the plate and PCB in the case it looks promising. And there is a rather large space where the teensy is supposed to go.
But I won't know for sure until I try a fully assembled Phantom. So don't quote me on this.

Oh my. I would say the colour, from the picture, looks fantastic. However, the prospect of such damage when shipping is really scary. Feng, any possibility of you helping Wraul out with this? I know shipping might be considered out of your control but perhaps better packaging could be implemented to avoid such catastrophes from happening to an object that is about 2x the price of the keyboard that's supposed to go in it?

Nice case, not so nice dents. Are they extremely noticeable, or maybe at the back?

Yes the case is really nice.

The dents are on the back so not really that noticeable. But still, on a case this price it feels kind of bad.

The case was rolled into a rather thick layer of foam wrapping. But it did not cover the short edges of the case that well.

So sorry to see that happened Wraul. I'm waiting for MKC to wake up in the morning to see what he can do about it. If there's no much he can do, I'll pay for your lose for sure. Don't worry about it.

Great :)
