Where/How Does One Acquire A Keyboard Case Like This?!
« on: Thu, 16 August 2012, 16:34:49 »
This is pretty much my dream keyboard. I Have the Poker and the keycaps. I just need to figure out where to get a case like that.
The only thing though, is I would much rather it cutouts for costar stabilizers. I contacted the dude who made this case, and he said he custom man it. He also said he is unable to make more.

I'm guessing there are companies that will laser cut acrylic for you if you give them the specs.

you forgot the pic. EDIT: it's here now.

Also, ask litster, he has already done an acrylic case.

Last time I asked around about acrylic cases, people said that they were common because they were relatively cheap to manufacture in Korea but no one else said anything else about it.

Litster sells black/red and white/blue but only for Filco sized TKL's I think..

If you want an acrylic layer cake and Costar stabilizers it's going to be a little more difficult.  There's no PCB mount version of Costar's stabs so you have to have the .060 metal plate (like you chopped down from your Rosewill).  Of course that plate is going to need to be custom cut since you want to have it the same dimensions as the acrylic layers.  Then you will need to change the layer arrangement (thickness, count) to work around where the plate is in that vertical stack.  You're going to need more acrylic under the plate to make up for its thin-ness.

If you don't mind the board floating in the case that should work... otherwise you really want the top acrylic layer to sit on top of the plate and to have a ring layer under the plate, and then the bottom layer under that.  Requires screws to hold it together tho.  No case that isn't 100% acrylic can get glued like I assume the one you posted is.

I would have that rubber shelf liner under the PCB : )
And I wouldn't mind it being glues together. There is really no reason to take it apart once its together unless a switch broke or something, but how often does that happen?

This might actually be a better design.

I don't know how well acrylic bonding glue holds up under pressure (you need to keep pressure on top of the plate to push against that shelf liner).  The interference fit between the plate and the ring layer may also cause trouble... acrylic is not strong.

Your edge bond on the 2nd version is questionable as well.

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of glues out there more than strong enough to hold acrylic together =P
I mean, even super glue should do the job.
