Linux question.

So, I'm wondering if there's any fellow linux users here. My more specific question is; What do you use the F-keys for?
I've been thinking of using them for binds. For example: F1 = Launches rxvt-unicode.
Is there anyone here doing something similar? And; Is there any cons of doing this?
I'm a big CLI guy, so I mostly use the asdf+++ keys.

Wow, I guess I do really ignore my F-row keys. For my binds, I end up just using Winkey combinations. I have e17 set up with 9 virtual desktops (3x3 grid) on each monitor, and use Win+[qweasdzxc] to navigate those, with Win+R opening the Everything launcher, and Win+T opening urxvt.

Maybe I should make use of the F-row keys.

The F keys are really far away and are actually used in some programs that's why I don't have any fancy bindings for them.

I almost never use the function keys.

If you didn't know already, in Linux console mode, Alt-Fx key switches between virtual consoles. If you have X running, then one of them usually goes (back) to X.
Some window managers for Linux/X therefore have Alt-Fx mapped to switching between workspaces, per default, and I used to have it that way for years. These days, I have them mapped on Alt-numeric row instead, so that I  don't have to stretch too far.

I also used to map Previous track, Play/Pause and Next track to Scroll Lock, Pause/Break, and Print Screen, respectively for my mp3 player.

Other guy: I prefer the awesome window manager, I could maybe make the bind F-keys script launch once I launch X? That way I can keep the funcionality of tmux.

I hope you will! The mouse makes my arm hurt, I only use it when I play games, edit photos or... Am lazy

I use Alt+Fn to switch between workspaces. Alt+1, 2, ... are for switching between tabs in the terminal. I'm running Fedora 15.
