Bought a SGI Onyx board by mistake hoping that it was one of the later PS/2 boards...

questions.  1) it looks like this board is very similar to a contemporary AT101.  Is it in fact possible to graft a controller from an old AT101 into it to make it speak PS/2?  (in other words, is the matrix the same as AT101, and is there actually a family connection, or just similar parallel engineering?)  2) what are the keycaps on this board?  They're dirty but look excellent, they're not doubleshot, are they perhaps dye sub PBT?  The googs yielded nothing, or possibly I wasn't trying hard enough.

Curious whether I should keep this and see if I can make it work, or if it's more effort than I have time to get into and I should pass it on to someone else who might want the switches to swap into some other sort of Alps based board.

I'm not sure about the Onyx,  but the SGI Granite boards are the ones that are AT101W clones.  I'm not sure about the membrane and controler,  i can photograph mine for you If you wish.  i know the keycaps on both are lasered - albeit very well.

when I say "Onyx" that is the workstation that it was packaged with... it appears for all the world to be a winkeyless "Granite" board, and has the same cream dampened Alps switches.  I was hoping this would work because I kind of liked the AEK2 that I had for a while but I couldn't deal with the ADB to PS/2 adapter (it seemed to make things glitchy and slow to respond) and slightly not quite right key layout.

Looks like someone made an adapter for the old SGI keyboard protocol: http://rshockley.dyndns.org/indigo.htm

But it looks like it's for plugging a PS/2 keyboard into an old SGI, not vice versa.

It might be worth asking over on the Nekochan forums, which seems to be the nexus of old SGI stuff these days: http://forums.nekochan.net/

It is not possible to graft a new controller to it. There is only one PCB in it, and it is used for both switches and controller.

Well that is disappointing... was really hoping to get to use this board.  How hard is it to swap switches into at101?

Edit: nvm.  Started searching to see what was out there and someone listed a 9500900 for a low BIN.  (less than I paid for the Onyx board, and pics look nicer.)  So I bought it.

Anyone want some nice dampened Alps switches and keycaps?  $20 + shipping? (probably about $15 if previous experience is any indicator.)  Will add to my FS post in marketplace as well.
