Looking to purchase first mechanical keyboard

Hello, I'm looking to purchase my first mechanical keyboard and I would love to hear any recommendations. I have found the Corsair Vengeance K60 for a great price and was wondering if anyone has used this keyboard.

If anyone knows of a better keyboard I would love to hear about it.

I would like a full sized keyboard, i.e. I like to have the numpad, but I don't want it to be bulky. Additionally I want a mechanical, but if there is a way to minimize the noise that would be great as my desk is near our living room and my girlfriend will be upset if all she hears while watching TV is clickety-clack clackety-click.

Would you prefer linear switches or tactile switches? Or have you no preference?

Popular linear switches are Cherry MX Blacks and MX Reds.  Popular tactile switches are MX Brown and MX Blue.

MX Brown switches are probably the best for a newcomer to mechanicals, since they are light, tactile, and don't click.

I wouldn't recommend the Corsair K60, because if you ever want to change the keycaps for a new set, it uses some non-standard sized modifiers.

Id highly recommend a Rosewill RK-9000, they are on sale right now at newegg for $67.99 free shipping with a code.  Blues and browns are on sale, other switch types are not but still fall under the 15% code.

Hey thanks for the suggestions guys! I was just reading this article, Mechanical-keyboard-guide and was going to reply saying I would like tactile.

I think I'll purchase that RK-9000 keyboard, it's in a price point that I was hoping to be in, and if the brown switches are quieter it meets all my needs.

Looks like I'll have to hold off on that keyboard for the time being. The newegg deal is only for the States and won't work in Canada. The .CA website has the black switch keyboard on sale for $79.99 but I'm not sure I want to buy the keyboard and then have to buy brown switches for it.

Anyway thank you for the suggestions, I at least know that I want a mechanical keyboard with a tactile feel using MX brown switches.

I dont wanna break any bubbles here. Just wanna share my 2 €.

I tried all the popular Mx Switches, that is brown, black, red and blue. (Im still green when it comes to exotic stuff)

If you wanna go for tactile switches I recommend blues. Now, Im not really a fan of tactile boards but I like blues alot more than browns.

The tactility in browns for me (Its very personal) is so minimal that its just a pain in the butt. People call em "Dirty Reds" as in dirty Mx Red switches. And that couldnt be more accurate if you ask me.

Though I have to say, you should try all switches yourself to come to your own conclusion. I thought I would love browns but didnt. But you might.

On the corsair, all the macro keys, function keys, and everything above the arrow keys are all rubber domes. Because it's got less mehcanical keys than a tenkeyless 'board, I don't think I'd recommend it.

As far as switches go, you might want to consider the Ergo-clear modification, You take normal clear switches, and put lighter springs in them. They are very tactile, but not clicky, so you can still type quietly.-

o-rings are also a good option.
