Hello everyone,
I recently finished giving my humble Choc Mini a detachable cable! The mod itself was relatively simple, and just required some basic soldering. It cost about £10 for all the various cables I needed (USB mini B extension, and internal USB motherboard cable). The board is now a lot easier to move with me, and no longer has its included bulky cable!
The only tools required were a soldering iron, some wire strippers and cutters, a craft knife and a hot glue gun. This took me about an hour, and would definitely take a lot less time for the more experienced out there! But it's a practical, simple mod that I'm happy with, and this can be adapted to almost any other keyboard if you'd like to do it!
Anyway, lets take a look! (Apologies in advance for some bad photos)
Here's the internal cable- pull it out! But remember to take a picture of the pin out so you remember where the wires go!I made the job a little easier for myself by using an internal USB header that already fit, here it is!Here's a bad photo of the cut and stripped wires, now lets get soldering!I've soldered and insulated the wires, now lets see if it works! It works! The test was a success! Now we can put the finishing touches on and get it all in the case.I've made a few small cuts to the inside of the case so that the mini B header will sit tight, and flush with the case. The header fits nicely! And there we go! Done! Here are the final photos. There we go! This is a much better looking board without the bulky cable on the end! I hope this helps any of you looking to do the same thing, as it can be adapted for almost any other board!
Alessandro.
