Red Alert spares (Tsangan White kit!) Mini Auction !ENDED!
« on: Fri, 05 October 2012, 15:44:20 »
Okay, so I have 1, and I mean 1 White Tsangan kit for Red Alert. I have been holding onto it for the last few months and telling everyone I have none because I suspected I forgot to include it in somebody's order. As everyone has now received their order for a while and not a single person has come forward asking for it, I'm assuming it's one that I cancelled the order of due to nonpayment and I forgot to update it in my spreadsheet.
Picture of the kits contents:

I also have a couple of "white modifier" correction kits that were shipped out to fix the Red Mod debacle. They also come with a white on red GH Esc key.

Here they are:

(Picture intentionally has them randomly arranged just to help combat my OCD, suffer with me!)

So I have no use for these but others do. The Tsangan kit in particular is in high demand, even if Hashbaz's 2nd chance gb includes it (last I heard it got cut in favor of the red) that won't be ready for months. If I threw this up it'd sell in minutes, seconds perhaps, and I'd have a tough time setting a fair price... so I'm going to do what everyone else on here is doing and throw up an auction.

This closes Sunday at 8PM PDT. No minimum, no buy it now, public bids in the thread only. Someone, I'm not sure who, suggested something like "if there's a new bid the auction stays open for another __ minutes." I like this idea as it prevents snipers at the end, but I'm not committed to doing it. I'd love some input on that stipulation.

As there are two of the extra kits, whatever the ending price for one is the other matches, that way you're only bidding on 2 items, not 3 and people don't pay different prices. If nobody is willing to pay for the 2nd one at the price the 1st sells, I'll just hold onto it.

Payment via Paypal, everything mimics my standard policies on shipping etc.

I think that's it, lmk if I'm forgetting anything.

Good luck, may the best keycap hoarder win

Winners!

I originally had it at 5 mins when making the post, but left it blank since I didn't actually know how long the original one was. That's what I was thinking.

Our julysicle battle, clearly.

Or the will to win.

To be fair, I saw you'd replied and expected you to have bid, too.

Excuse my ignorance, but could somebody tell me exactly what "Tsangan" means? Is it a certain board manufacturer?

I get the feeling there is a new era of people on GH who purchase things for the sake of owning with minimal intent on actually using them...

Yeah I'm beginning to wonder that too, but obviously I'm not one of them. I literally only keep around what I plan on using. I don't even keep one of every thing I've had made... like I don't even have any 1x SC2 keys from my first group buy. That kinda makes me sad but I really don't have a use for them. Rofl Noobgan.

Btw I'm not going to be paying super close attention to this until Sunday evening, so if the price quote is out of date that's why.

PS since I forgot to mention it above, you can't buy both white mod kits, 1 per person. You can get both the Tsangan and 1 mod kit though. I'd like to at least see 2 happy people out of this.

Must have the white on red GH key!  :o
Full disclosure, I also have a few extras of those as well, 3 to be precise. I haven't listed them for sale publicly though because I haven't figured out a price yet. But yeah, don't feel obligated to buy the whole kit just for the key. They'll be in my leftovers thread sooner or later. If you must have it soon send me a PM.

I would love to purchase a GH key... I haven't gotten one in the year that I've been here. Happy coincidence that it is red, my favorite color.

Easy to understand why, considering the amount of worship KMACs and CC collections get around here.  Anyway, I think it will even out.  A year collecting dust and things will be back up for sale or trade.  Also it seems to me like some of the biggest super-hoarders are old-timers.  You know who I'm talking about.

Yea, I figured there would be alot of people on here who care deeply about what random strangers think of them, the "old timers" bought them because they personally like them and appreciate the quality of the work not because the community at the time were fapping to the latest Korean customs' pictures AND these purchases don't get resold within the next 2 weeks.

This "new" era of users are paying way above the market place just to have something that everybody else wants, which screws the community over because you keep them for 2 weeks and resell for the same price or higher when if could have easily been sold for much lower originally thus creating a never ending cycle. Inflating the price for no reason fupps up the market for everyone as we can all see from the CC craze.

Ah, I thought you meant one of each. Seeing as TJCAustin has em right now he can retract his bid if he wants since it was ambiguous at the time. Being that your post had Tsangan with a strikethrough on it, I find it hard to believe you meant both white mod kits and not one of each. We all know bidding at the start isn't really all that important. The only reason I'm leaving it open all weekend is so that everyone gets a chance to see it... well hopefully everyone.

Isn't that what "collecting" is? While I agree there are many of us, me included, do you think the old timers, even the purists at the other place, that have been around a while actually use the 10, 20, 30 or 50 keyboards they own? Or that some of the old timers here actually use 30+ clacks?

Just my thoughts,
John

I think he means flipping as the problem. Collecting has never been an issue and is somewhat revered around here. We all love to drool at each other's goods. IMO if you bought it as a collectable the only time you sell it is if you run into a situation where you need funds bad or you're getting out of the hobby. If you buy it and test it out and decide you don't like it obviously sell it, but gaming the system to get in on something limited so you can flip it in a week is pretty low class imo.

I agree with most of this but also think that it is the picture posted by the "old timers" that constantly promote the beauty, craftminship, call it whatever you want but it drives the desire for others to obtain them. Personally, having walked the walk as a tool and die maker / designer / mold engineer, i have to ask, is it really possible to appreciate the quality and craftsmanship if you don't fully understand what went into making the product.

I think he means flipping as the problem.

But I agree, as stated in my last post, the he is spot on that flipping is driven by the desire of others to own and that is somewhat driven by seeing big collections of others, and as I then stated, many times this is the "old timers". I would consider myself as what some may call a hoarder. However, it could never be seen as a flipper or in it for a profit. I don't think I have ever sold anything here, but certainly have bought a lot. I think there are many in that boat. Usually a small percentage creates the perception of the masses actions.

WTH are we talking about in this thread.  Are we referencing CCs, KMACs, or doubleshot sets?  I are confused.

I read it as you were auctioning three things in total, but would sell the two matching sets at whatever ended up at the higher of the two in terms of price.  So that's why I just put two bids in.

Basically, I have 1 Tsangan kit and 2 "White Mod" kits. In order to prevent simultaneous bidding wars on identical items, I'm simplifying it by only having you bid on one of them. The selling price of the 2nd white mod kit will be whatever the first one ends up at. Obviously you're only committed to buying one of them, and I would prefer if the winner allowed someone else to purchase it. That isn't to say you can't get both if you want them.

The Tsangan kit is independant of this, and is being auctioned off all by itself, not in a package with the white mod kits. Obviously you can bid on both freely and if you win both, yay for you!

Could I just check - would the white modifiers fit in one of the "small bubble mailers" described here: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=27740.msg523931#msg523931?

I'd like to bid but postage costs would affect my bid

I'll certainly match the $20 bid for the other set of modifiers.

Naturally, I meant I'd match the $25 that was bid 60 seconds after I bid.

All of these will fit in a small bubble mailer. If you bought two it'd be a bit of a stretch, but 1 of whatever will fit with 0 issues.

Thx for the bids, bidding closes in about 8 hours!

Matching again.
