PC Mod Worklog: Antec Lanboy Air/P183 v3 hybrid
« on: Sat, 06 October 2012, 12:04:27 »
Going to use the frame from a lanboy air and the panels from a p183 + some custom cut acrylic to create something badass

in the meantime, please peruse my FS thread where i'm getting rid of old parts so that this can happen

ps, HUGE thanks to James at Antec for helping to make this happen. i told him my idea and he ruffled through their stock of lanboy air and p183 parts to find the first wave of things i needed for me.

i spent all weekend reassembling my machine in the LBA frame. no pics unfortunately, as i had to head down south at 1am this morning. the first thing i'm going to do is get vise it up and cut away the plastic from the laminate on the p183 panels with a hacksaw, then polish down the edges. from my rough measurements, that should mostly fit the side panels.

when i get back up north, i'll take a picture of the LBA framed machine (there's a funky fan setup you might get a kick out of, 4 scythe ultra kazes and 2 ty-143s driven off a single PWM header :D) then i'll get some mockup pics.

i'm also disassembling a second frame i bought (i have a red and a blue frame) so that i can mix and match bars. i'll take some pics of that as well. one thing to note is that the LBA metal parts seem to be painted/powdercoated and well. i was expected thin anodization as per lian li, but the paint is thick, has a nice sheen and looks pretty darn good as it is.

oh, and also get a good pic of the swag antec sent me for having such a bizarre idea regarding their products. hah!

progress on various projects at chez kawa:

6366-0

from left to right:

1) about 5lbs of product from mdpc-x.

2) machine in bare lanboy air frame

3) empty green box (OR IS IT? yes, it's empty)

4) bare frame rails extra LBA frame

5) a bent piece of sheet metal with holes in it. gee, i wonder what that could be useful for...

ps, the thing next to the computer is a UPS. apparently we've had three brownouts in the last week :/.

THE pixar poster, as far as i know. i got it for being a first-year-as-a-public-company pixar shareholder. i have another framed letter which is literally the piece of paper that corresponds to my last share of pixar common stock before the disney buyout was implemented legally.

next task on this project is to practice drilling cleanly through thick (3/4 to 1/2") acrylic without cracking anything. once i can do this reliably, i should be able to use to the acrylic to fashion a case top and bottom using the LBA frame rails and the acrylic i had cut. how the sides will come together is still up in the air.

have completely disassembled one LBA frame. becoming pretty proficient at drilling and cutting thick acrylic without melting it. currently placing parts on acrylic and frowning.
