My Dad is AWESOME
« on: Sat, 13 October 2012, 22:15:10 »
My Dad offered me something quite amazing this evening...

It's a keyboard...

It's NOT a rubber dome...

It has no Windows keys...

IT IS AN MX-1800 with blacks and PS2! Though he's holding it as collatoral for the time being while I finish my Eagle Scout paperwork, but she has black on white double shots and what not! WHOO!

He got it from a friend that knew I was into "keyboards".  It was a total surprise!  I'll have to take pictures later, it's pretty groddy right now, so the keycaps and what not need to be cleaned, but I'm sure that I can arrange for that. :)
Also, almost no shine! I'll have to personally thank this guy for giving this board to my dad.

This sort of thing can go so very wrong, but not this time!

Congratulations :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I wonder if something like a Mr. Clean magic eraser would bring the "white" back to an aged keyboard. Just a thought

Eagle rank... pretty nice dude. I got to Life, working on eagle but couldn't finish in time before college. I spread myself too thin in high school.

Save the Mr Clean eraser for last. They are actually surprisingly abrasive even though they don't feel like it, and can make textures shiny. Pencil erasers are good for small spots.

Do everything you can with soap and water first. I prefer powdered laundry detergent and Oxi-clean.

Alcohol and citrus oil cleaners are good, for more oily residues, but citrus can damage plastic so be careful.

PS - I made a faux-camoflauge Model M with red WASD and arrow keys for my son.

"It's 110, but it doesn't feel it to me, right. If anybody goes down. Everybody was so worried yesterday about you and they never mentioned me. I'm up here sweating like a dog. They don’t think about me. This is hard work.
Do you feel the breeze? I don't want anybody going on me. We need every voter. I don't care about you. I just want your vote. I don't care."

Or denture tabs. :) They work wonders, especially on white keycaps - no scrubbing required.

My signature hasn't changed since 2012. I should really update it.
