Heart of the Swarm Beta Thread
« on: Tue, 16 October 2012, 05:34:02 »
Whos in the beta?  I got in phase 5.  I have about 200 games played and I'm still Silver with over 100 wins.  International competition, Koreans and others are on beta server.  Its fun stuff just inquiring.

Online gameplay only, new tilesets and that sort of jazz.  I can spoil the ending for the story if you like.  I read the other day only 50% of people who own SC2 play it online where is the other half got it only for the story.  Interesting statistics.

The Beta is more about testing & balancing the multiplayer.

Im not in the beta however a friend of mine is, He said to me "Oh you know that starcraft 2 you like, i got the beta invite, its pretty **** only 1 mission.

I wanted to punch him right in his face for that comment  :(

My sc2 account sits at about 1400 games and i still cant get a damn invite.

No invite here.  Would love to get in on the action though.  Maybe they'll do a pre-order open beta again like with WoL.

I have two accounts with HotS Beta. I can say right now its nothing that special. Honestly half the people I face are doing random **** and its so hard to play a good game when you can't even read what you're opponent is doing. I'm in gold league right now after my first five placement matches compared to my top diamond rank in WoL. The only decent part I guess is just messing around with the new units.

Yea... I'm getting the sense Blizzard has no idea WHAT they're doing, what, with the patches they've put out every week for the past 6 or so. Either that, or there's some internal conflict.

My personal hope is the latter, and that it's Dustin Browder about to get his ass kicked. I honestly think he has no idea what he's doing. Or, he's trolling the **** out of Blizzard and intent on turning in a turd as the complete Starcraft 2 (Starcraft 2 with both expansions).

But, that's just me - and it seems, all the weird **** going on with the patches is the rest of the Blizzard staff members trolling the **** out of Browder back to get his ass fired. But, who knows.

Blizzard is really stubborn on implementing some things. I would post a list, but I'm pretty sure its common knowledge to most SC2 players here. I don't really mind Blizzard releasing the frequent HotS patches, because at least they're giving some things a shot. That's the whole point of the beta right now though. Some of the things players utilize from the new units, Blizzard may have never thought of it happening before. I mean look at the warhound. Without a doubt the most controversial unit in the beta (so far), and it had to be removed. Right now they're really struggling with balancing Protoss overall with the mothership core and new stargate units. I'd much rather have a pretty well balanced game before having them release it. WoL beta was okay, and they only had to really make adjustments in trivial things such as building time for buildings/units. Like the warpgate research...jeez lol.

If Browder wanted to troll us he'd just make a bunch of destructible rocks LOL.

If you remember playing WoL in beta, you should remember that the play "styles" and "builds" were much, much worse than they are even now in HotS. As in the beginning of all RTSes, nobody knows how to play it yet and that's why having an early pro scene will really solidify the game for the rest of the player base.

I'm a WoL masters zerg and terran and am in gold league right now as protoss in HotS, but I've won the last 6 out of 7 matches all with the same OP build--people just don't know how to make good compositions or how to counter new build orders yet. I have a ton of fun playing!

Well it's official! It's being released next year in March! I may practice HotS now if CSL decides to change mid-way into season from WoL to HotS.

If you want to get into the beta now just pre-order from a gamestop or equivalent game store for $5 and you should get a beta invite on your receipt. If you know you are going to buy the game both the regular, and special edition pre-orders from amazon come with a beta key. I ordered mine so hopefully some time in the next 4 days I'll have beta access.

Beta is getting more and more hilarious with each balance patch. Pros are getting into the ridiculous new unit comps and it's a lot of fun to watch and try. If you're planning on getting the game when it comes out, I'd definitely support prepurchasing to get to play in the beta!

Hmm, CE again or standard?

Could you preorder feom amazon and cancel right away?

For any of you that are hardcore starcraft fans and dont know, the torsaque was a unique unit and there has only been one. It acted as an overmind, queen, or overlord and commands his own swarm. I hope blizzard keeps the story straight  this time.

I pre-ordered HotS a few months ago on Newegg for $30, so I'm pretty happy. If I'm understanding what you're trying to do Qsanity, you actually have to pre-order it from Amazon.com in order to get the beta key. At least, that's how it's being said on TeamLiquid at the moment...I'm not entirely sure if you can really "scam" Amazon by doing that.

I've had it on preorder for some time on Amazon and just got my beta key last night.

Regarding your question, there's no reason to cancel it right away since Amazon doesn't actually charge you until they're ready to prepare a package for shipping. If I wanted to, I could cancel my order right now.

I've been in for a month or two... pre the new UI (no idea which phase) and it kinda seems like a bit of a mess, not sure what I really think....

It's a mess, because I say again, Dustin Browder, the lead designer of Starcraft 2 is ****ing around and pulling bull**** around the studio. For some God knows what reason, the higher ups keep keeping him there. He needs to get fired, before they get a handle on Starcraft 2. It's going to end up like a turd if they don't. It's heading that way, that's for sure.

Because anyone who has criticized Browder or Kim or anyone else at Blizzard actually knows what goes on in the office...
In a lot of people's opinions HotS is coming along much better than WoL.
