what happened to the GEEK HACK key groupbuys?
« on: Fri, 02 November 2012, 12:19:36 »
I always enjoyed participating in that monthly GEEK HACK key groupbuys (SP)... so what happened to them? Did I miss them?  :(

Winter is near, so what about an ice cold GEEK HACK keycap?  :)

I'll gladly run one if the powers that be ask me, but I think we are really gearing up for the GeekHack Pack that will have a GH key included!

Christmas 2013?  A GB started now is unlikely to be completed and delivered in less than 2 months.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

A short buy could be done theoretically. Max 1 week for order collection, 2-3 weeks SP production time, 1 week ship time... tight but possible. It's just a single geek hack key, no need for it to take a long time if people don't argue about colors and things and cause delay.

future workflow will be the following:

i spend about fifteen minutes choosing a color, order N keys, SP delivers in a couple weeks, and then, like magic, they go up for sale.

finally, everyone has keys, is happy

Like I said, theoretically... lol. A strong group buy leader just says take it or leave it and stfu. The thing with these keys though is every color combination that dosen't look horrible will likely end up done at some point anyway.
