I've had a hhkb in the cart before when trying to buy cc's mainly to save on shipping. However my type s arrived this morning and I gotta say the cc I had planned for it looks ridiculous, something aint right about a $30 plastic skull on a $500 keyboard

my topre cc's now have no home

OTOH consider that a $30 key cap costs more than an entire $20 rubber dome keyboard.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

CC needs to start making skulls for rubber dome boards. It could be their revolution! Why do you hold rubber domes back, clickclack!?

Because in general someone who buys a $500 keyboard (or even a $150 keyboard) will buy a $30 key cap to go on it, but someone who buys a $20 rubber keyboard is unlikely to buy any custom key caps.

Next someone will ask for an ALPS CC ;)

tbh I think I will do the same, only had 5 minutes with the board this morning (posty rocked up about 8.30) before going to work and it is what I thought it would be - the best keyboard ever and exactly what I have been looking for on my journey through keyboards the last couple of years. Beautiful, minimal, attaching a toy to it is just completely wrong IMO. I have red topre esc which is about as far as I will go, and even that might be a bit much

I would have imagined that CC would have forwarded the keycaps to EK only if there was a sufficient quantity to warrant getting a third party involved.  Otherwise he could have sold them himself via his vendor sub-forum.

There's also the possibility that due to the "overwhelming" amount of registrations for the contest, Clack decided to make more for the EK sale. Just positive thinking and in reality I highly doubt this is the case. HIGHLY doubt.

^ Good thinking, that man!
