Keyboards :)
« on: Wed, 21 November 2012, 11:34:33 »
Hello everyone!

I've been looking for a better keyboard for a bit (currently using the one that came with my computer) and I'm happy I just found this place.

Question - does anyone know of physical stores that sell mechanical keyboards on the US East Cost (aside from Best Buy)? I want to try out how the different switches sound so I can avoid driving my housemates batty, and Best Buy only has the BlackWidow with the blue switches that are the noisiest kind.

Welcome to Geekhack!

And avoid the BlackWidow if you can.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

The Filco is one of the slghtly more expensive brands around, but good quality.  And the camo version, being afaik slightly limited, is also slightly more expensive.

Hey welcome to Geekhack! If you think that's expensive... you better watch out. You can't go wrong with a Filco.
I love Elzy

Welcome here! as other people said before, you can't go wront with a filco! it's maybe expensive but it's worth its price!

as I stated before, just try to avoid the blackwidow (had one myself, and didn't like the look of it nor his size (even if it made me love the blue switches))

Welcome  to Geekhack!
Is there a Fry's  Electronics around you? They are carrying the  Cooler Master Storm Quickfire.
It's a very solid board and at a good price, fry's has at it's priced  at 79.99
http://www.frys.com/product/7180812;jsessionid=+TSOZQKzF6+874A-+5geUg__.node2?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
Though some dislike it for heavy branding, I think I've  seen some without branding now?
I'm not sure if they still sell branded ones  or not, Maybe  someone can shed some light on this?
Good luck in your search my friend!
Peace,
Rinsaku
