Strange keyboard idea?
« on: Thu, 22 November 2012, 19:34:10 »
Hi forum. I just joined because I've been scouring the internet for a perfect gaming keyboard and stumbled upon this site. Have seen a lot of stuff. Right now I'm using the logitech g13 and a regular keyboard. The though of a keyboard that combines the two came up. Seems kind of obvious to me but apparently it doesn't exist, and like I've said I've looked and seen thousands of different keyboards at this point. Anyway, I put together an image of what it might look like and I figure you folks could point me in the right direction or tell me it's never going to happen and stop the mild obsession. Attached is an image I've made of exactly what I'm looking for... Any suggestions?

Let me add something to this idea. Although keys are nice indeed, when it comes to gaming, we may need precision even in our movements, so, to do slower movements and have better control on third person games especially, a good joystick would be nice.

And this could be on the left keyboard attachment.

And of course, if someone needs the numeric keys, why not having a key where it switches on one profile between the macro keys like the G13 and on the other numeric keys and other neccessary keys such as page up, page down, etc? Better yet, these second layer keys could be printed below the keys, just like on the Filco Ninja.

Though, I gotta admit, the only monster that tried something like this, is the piece of failure called Steelseries Merc.

Actually the wolf king timberwolf is the closest to what I need but it was discontinued a long time ago. The only one I can find for sale not on ebay (because I don't do ebay). Is on amazon used for 200$. This was originally 60$ new. And before I got the g13 I was really excited about the joystick, but it turns out I didn't really need it. This idea made me think "why don't these manufacturers just sell the chassis and switches and keys etc. on their own? Like, you pick how many keys, this one would be 20x5 for the chassis, pick the switches, pick the keys, and get that all in a package." Another obvious idea to me that doesn't exist.

And if you look at the left gaming board on the timberwolf it doesn't look like it would feel right. Nothing like the g13. The keys are flat and key finding in game would be a pain. I play starcraft 2 by the way.

Talking to someone from http://www.keyboardco.com/ about making this. Said it would "cost a great deal." No word on how much a great deal is. But if everybody is down with this idea and we can muster up some preorders we could probably get it down to a reasonable price. Anybody in?

I've seen similar with detachable pads that can go on left or right side.
