[WTB] Ctrl Keycap (only) for IBM Model M
« on: Wed, 28 November 2012, 22:38:16 »
Hello, Geekhackers! We have a new member on GH, name is Champloo, who recently inherited an IBM Model M keyboard. Only problem is, it was missing a couple keycaps, the F9 and a Ctrl. I am hooking him up with a spare F9 key I had, and I was wondering if anyone has a spare Ctrl key for him? I will pay you for the cap and shipping, if you will send it directly to him. Let's show some good will toward a new member, and make his keyboard complete!

You guys rock. Seriously.

Champloo is my bro-in-law. I found that keyboard while cleaning out the office building my firm is vacating. I was going to wrap it up and give it to him for Christmas since I knew he was wanting one, but I thought he might be mad if I made him wait that long. I also wasn't sure we'd be able to find the missing key caps very easily.

He got me into this site and now I am typing on my brand new Rosewill with blue switches which I am loving. I didn't know what I was missing. But after playing with his new keyboard, I knew I must have one.

Seriously, thank you guys.
I stay busy with work and family these days, but I'm still around, lurking.

Contrary some people's opinions, this site is not just about key caps and the lust for Korean custom keyboards. I'm glad to be able to help in some small way.

And also, welcome to Geekhack, WT!

Lol reviving old topic... But for a reason!

I have gotten my hands on a Model M aswell, and i, too, have a CTRL key misssing (Pebble color)

Anyone would be sweet enough either to send me one (i'll cover any required fees) or point out where i can get one? Unicomp doesn't provide classic Buckling Spring keys for CTRL and such :/

Can't you just replace the whole cap with a Unicomp instead of the cover only?

EDIT: I just looked at my M's and their CTRLs looks wider than yours.

Can you post a pic of the label under?

Of course i can do that

It's a Blue Label Model, if that's of any help. I wouldn't go for Unicomp for the sole reason that the reviews pretty much all say that the keycap finishes are not as good as vintage IBM finishes, and therefore i'd rather search my way to perfection rather than dealing with a flawed board everyday.

Now you are just picky :-)

Unicomp's small keycaps are not so bad. Can't say the same for recent spacebars.
The last keyboard I ordered from them had a really bad one. So I asked for a replacement spacebar. Which they kindly sent free of charge.
Unfortunately, the replacement killer was just as bad as the original.

Hahaha!

It's super sad that Unicomp took IBMs keyboard business and simply cannot be as good as what IBM was beforehand. While at Lenovo, they took IBM laptop business and now Lenovo computers are as good as IBM computers were back in the days.

I just don't like Unicomp at all :/
