Rackmount Cherry G80
« on: Thu, 29 November 2012, 20:15:02 »
If I was a server admin,  I would own this.  Sadly not the extremely rare one on Deskthorty's wiki.  This one appears to be modeled on a G80-11900.  Still cool though:

while we're on the topic of rackmount cherry boards.... :)

i ended up purchasing that a while back since the model information provided wasn't conclusive, but it ended up having MY switches.  i knew it had the lasered caps, at least.  the whole thing is pretty nice and unused condition.

if anyone happens to have a hardon for a rackmount cherry board but doesnt need/want one like above, just sayin' i'll still sell the one i have for next to nothing since i don't want it at all ;000

Have you ever looked inside?  could you put a G80-1800 in there?

I did take it apart and take pictures, I may post them here later if I can find an appropriate USB cable.  The switches were mounted to some kind of metal plate with a thin layer of contact material between it and the switches, so I don't know if the guts of another board would fit or not.

That sounds like your normal G81-1800 internals. G80 and G81 keyboards made by Cherry share the same case. So here it also should be swappable without any modifications.

Install a Raspberry Pi in that and some kind of power supply and it would make a great laptop!

I would totally love to put that in my server rack!  Please PM me and we'll work something out!

Thanks very much,

I like keyboards and case modding.  Everything about a computer should be silent -- except the KEYBOARD!
