How good is Tapatalk?
« on: Wed, 12 December 2012, 16:39:54 »
So title says all,
I finally bought an iphone 5, I'm liking it pretty much so far (huge upgrade for me, I was using an almost 3 years old htc desire)
It keeps on asking if I want to buy tapatalk
What do you think, Is it worth it?

I personally like it since it makes browsing forums much much easier... but you're only limited to websites that support Tapatalk. I primarily use it for geekhack and xda-developers but beyond that, I haven't found much use? So if you have a few bucks to spare then I don't see anything wrong with getting it, but it's not an absolute necessity.

I hate it. What a waste of money. They try to get you to pay for every little feature including uploading photos which is all I use it for. Garbage.

tapatalk? ok if the one website you use, or a few use tapatalk, otherwise it's a stupid app.

I'm not a big fan of Tapatalk, but it's better than browsing the forum in a mobile web browser.

I use it, but only when I am away from the computer and haven't checked in for a while.

It annoys me mostly, for two reasons.

1. Threads I know I have already read most of, whether on Tapatalk or on the computer, it makes me start reading again from the beginning.  More accurate sync between the two would be nice, but is it even possible?

2. When displaying unread posts on the computer, I go subforum by subforum, but Tapatalk gives them to me all mixed up (probably in date order, but that is irrelevant to me).  Unread posts grouped by subforum would be better.

3. The unread tab (on iOS) is right under the "back to list of fora" button, and my fat fingers often hit the "back to list of fora" button instead of the unread tab.

Ok, three reasons then.

But is sure beats trying to use a mobile browser on a 4" screen!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Tapatalk is great but the worst part is, at least on android, the "skins" for it are basically a whole app that costs the same as the base app. Also to minimize bandwith usage it loads pictures as you look at them instead of a whole page so it lags a lot in picture threads. Its still better than mobile browsers so I recommend it.

Personally, I love Tapatalk.  It's super nice for end of the day browsing in bed, really anywhere not in front of a computer.  Not sure why there's so much hate on this app...

Mine too, Evo 4G here... I'm rooted and running Jelly Bean, so that may add some other factors as well.

I like it for browsing the forums before bed,  or keeping up on auctions on the go.

Are you rooted? Also, is it a legitimate copy? I know mine came from Mobilism... heh.

My phone is not rooted and I paid for my copy of Tapatalk.  I use it almost every day and it crashes several times a week.
