I want a new filco
« on: Tue, 18 December 2012, 00:48:29 »
I'm between the Linear - R and browns.  Keycaps don't really matter as I will be swapping them out anyway.  Does anyone have experience with both of these boards that can do a  dirrect comparison.  Right now I'm leaning toward the reds, however I really like browns.

Also, what is the best place to get a (New) linear R?

Thanks in advance

For USA, the best place to get a Filco w/ Red switches is probably right here.

That's something only you can answer. Everybody's different. Do you have a mech keyboard already? What will you primarily be using it for?

You can't buy a Linear R anymore, since that's a limited edition. You can buy a regular Filco with red, but you don't get the fancy box.

I'm pretty sure they're the same since they both use reds, but just to be 100% clear, is their anything other than the box it's shipped in that separates the two?

I own blues and browns and love them both.  I've tried blacks and hate them.  I've also tried reds and think they're very similar to the browns, to me the bump on browns is almost not noticable.  So, "I think" I'd like them, however, I've just tried the reds, never for a long period.

Is there really anywhere besides amazon or ebay to get filcos in the US?

FWIW I prefer reds overall, feels so sexy on my fingers, but its such a close tie, it will always be a very personal choice.
When I switch back to brown for a bit I enjoy the extra definition in the key presses.  Maybe it could be a mood thing, good for when I want to bash things out.

I just installed o-rings on my Leopold FC700R (reds), which has lower profile keys in the first instance, and then the o-ring reduces travel further. For me this is more important than the switch type as the higher key travel causes my WASD hand to get fatigued a lot quicker.

Also this does emphasise that what you use it for is important; wasd type gaming, vs. other gaming, typing... and the rough mix of what time you spend doing those things.

It's almost as if I need to get another Leopold to try out browns in the lower profile, then I could do a better comparison... or get some thicker o-rings.. hmm.

I prefer brown to red since brown are slightly more tactile.  I can barely feel reds.  They're not satisfying to push at all.

Not really, those two are your best bets.
