Aye up - newbie from England here

Bit about me - work in IT as a sysadmin and run linux boxes in my home (and a Linux based computer in my car) so spend a lot of time at the keyboard

Been happily using a Dell membrane keyboard at work for about 4 years now but its time to buy a mechanical keyboard

Hopefully not too expensive as i already have Expensive hobbys (Cars, Car Hifi, Computing and photography) sucking on my wallet

Welcome! Just don't let yourself get more than three keyboards and too many novelty keycaps and you should be okay. It's easier when you have a lot of other money-sucking hobbies, haha.

It's easy to clock up thousands of dollars of keyboards (some are like #400 to $400 for a single keyboard), and sets of custom keycaps can run to $100 or more for certain sets.

OTOH if you are careful and only have a few keyboards, and limit the custom keycaps you buy, costs can be kept under control.
