i think these get too much hate

In my opinion they are the best thing to type on that isn't mechanical. I don't understand how anyone can not like it.

I gave the wired version of one of those to my neighbor... I hated it! To each their own... =D

Can't stand the mini one, but I got the full one on my recording computer. I love typing on that thing.

Best scissor switch made, IMO.

I hated initially because it's so flat that it's hard to tell your finger placement.  But after I got used to it then it's actually pretty awesome to use.

I'll agree with you it's one of the better non-mechanical keyboard to type on, but in my opinion the best is this:

10694-0

If you're in Canada I'd recommend to grab one of these at $40, however I don't recommend them at full price because then you should buy a mechanical  :P

Ya know, I've always heard tons of good things about the Logi Illuminated keyboard, but every time I try one out, I can't stand it. Also, non-standard ins/del clusters need to be killed with fire.

The keypress action is OK but the super flat profile makes me mistype frequently.

I've got the full-sized wired version (see sig) and it's great.  My third favourite atm.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I always feel like the travel distance on the keys is jarring. I don't really like how they feel at all.

Thats funny because the travel distance is kindof what i like about them. it's easy to go from key to key quickly due to how little travel there is when pressing the key down.

I find I don't mind this since what they did basically is remove scroll lock and bump insert up 1 row.  Since I almost never use those 2 keys so it doesn't bug me.

I always feel like the travel distance on the keys is jarring. I don't really like how they feel at all.

I find the bad thing about low travel distance is that there isn't much "shape" for you to feel your placement on the keys.  But I guess some might argue that lower travel distance = faster to type.  Because you bottom out instantly then you can move on to the next letter.

Cherry Profile is suppose to be kinda mid way point.  I'll find out when my keycaps arrive in January whether I'll like it or not lol.

Guess I'm an anomaly. I regularly use Insert (shift/ctrl + insert FTW), especially since shift+insert is paste in Mintty/bash. I also use the menu key very frequently.

Scissor switches aren't bad, and the Apple keyboards in general are nice IMO.

Also, +1 for Ctrl/Shift+Insert to copy and paste.  I didn't think anyone but me did that. ;D

i don't like scissor switch keyboards. they have short travel and high actuation force, means typing on them is like hitting a wall with fingers.

I hate these with a passion, though I admit they're quite solid. But that's the problem! Hitting short-throw keys on a metal plate makes my joints hurt so much. I never experienced anything like that before.

Thinkpad keyboards on the other hand...

PS layout of Mac keyboards is terrible. I could get over multimedia crap instead of proper function keys, but so small Enter on the ISO version? They must be joking.

I liked to type on it... but... I've already broke 2 so...

edit : few caps broke* not the whole keyboard

I actually prefered typing on those... but pissed buying new ones...
(but... I... still not yet tried blue switches x))

I disagree about the "solidity"... scissor switches are such so short life time

Though to be fair, I find the keyboard to be decent.  It's probably gonna be one of the few plate mounted rubber dome / scissor switch ever.

Also if you consider that for $50 you can get an aluminum case !!!  Filco aluminum case is like probably $150-$300.  I mean granted they're not exactly the same but still.

However I can't argue anything for Apple mice, they're just down right horrible AND still cost $50.

My ultrabook (Lenovo Yoga 13) has a scissor-switch chiclet keyboard like in the OP.  To be honest, for a tiny keyboard on a tiny 3lb. laptop, I actually kind of like it.  But compared to just about any other keyboard, it's horrible.

Logitech UltraX Premium Keyboard. Plate-mounted scissor switches... for 20 EUR in Europe (!), until they discontinued them. Maybe too high quality for the masses.

I have an engineer who likes these above everything else. I offered him any keyboard in existence before he came to work for me all the way up to Realforce and HHKB boards. He tried a couple and I even have spares of both Topre and MX boards but I ended up ordering the wired version of the apple keyboard because he loves the short stroke keys. To each his own.

I REALLY hate how these type.. Low travel,no feedback, flat keys and ****ty layout.  Constantly mistype on these.. You really have to ram them down.

Yeah, those keys are pretty nice.. Using ones right now, I really want to switch to mechanical ones but I don't really mistype on these anyway, I think I'm used to it or something. Only bad thing I can find in the ones I'm using right now, is that I have to protect them from my cat since she seems to find a way to break the keys really easily, luckily only the numpad....

I have an apple wired and a logitech illuminated. I like both of them as secondary boards but they can't beat a mech.

I think I can still type faster on the logitech though. Used it for a long time before getting my Filco.

I am typing on my Asus Zenbook keyboard that is like a replica of the MacBook air keyboard. I typ reasonably fast on this, and the scissor switches are far better than some of the cheap rubber domes out the IMO. But it is starting to fatigue my hands. Wouldn't recommend writing an essay on this or anything

I can't even begin to count how many lines of code I've written on my Apple Aluminum. I dunno, I must have really adaptive hands or something. About the only board I can't get used to is that damn buckling spring.

i've just compared an old apple aluminium and a new one. new one is fine (as fine as a chiclet can be). old one requires noticeably more force, and keys are a bit sticky.

I am slower at buckling spring than I am on a regular rubber dome, so you are not alone.  Got to love the Cherry MX Blues though...
