If memory serves me right I think you can use a pool ball in the LTrac.

I've been looking at these for the past few days. Looks really interesting (and really expensive), but it's a shame that there isn't a single very organized place where you can get all the information and make purchases for these.. it took me a while to figure out that the letter X was the difference between the 1600 and 3200 DPI models. I'm still a little confused about the specs/model number of a three input jack model that I've seen pictures of: http://www.fentek-ind.com/images/s_MLTRACPSASUB.jpg

In all, I just wish that the Kensington Expert Mouse had higher DPI. That would probably be an instant purchase for me.

Ripster used to have a bunch of posts on this, but they're all gone now. From what I could find you'll want either a 2 1/16" or 2 1/4" ball.

There was a thread full of it, including recommendations on vendors/types/whatever.

I've also read something about naming conventions on their trackballs, but I have no idea... it could be the now-gone GH wiki — or something completely different.

I am currently using an L-Trac without a scroll wheel. I highly recommend investing in a simple switch (a midi sustain pedal will do, or you can make one) to use as a foot-pedal for the mouse

Not only for the purpose of more buttons, but for a reasonably placed third mouse button. I also have an AHK script that will allow you to rough scroll really nicely using the ball if anyone wants it.

You can use a billiard ball.

Click on the "Model Breakdown" tab.

1st number:

CST1??? - All models with a model number in the one thousands and below will be mechanical optical devices.
CST2??? - All models with a model number in the two thousands will be laser devices.


2nd number:

CST?0-5?? - Determines the color of the device.
0 = Full beige case, cable and ball
1 = Beige case, cable and black ball
3 = White case with blue, red, green buttons, yellow ball and beige cable.
4 = Clear case, clear cable and blue ball
5 = Full black case, cable and ball


3rd & 4th number:
CST??00 – configuration of buttons and cable type.
45 = USB/PS2 connection with true three buttons.
50 = USB/PS2 connection with drag/scroll default to the middle button.

Sample: CST1350 – A mechanical optical device that has a white case with blue, red, green buttons, yellow ball and beige
cable. Using a USB/PS2 connection with drag/scroll default to the middle button.

Note: A few devices will not follow the same numbering convention (I.E. CST800 and CST650)


Suffix Key

SA – Switch Adapted: Can have all buttons relocated to external buttons, disabling the onboard buttons.
-5 – Allows the users to expand the number of buttons up to 5.
Pro – True three buttons
W – Uses a scrolling wheel located in front of the middle button (only available on laser units)

Note: Some suffixes can be combined like CST2345SAW or CST2545-5W
