What are the best switches for Starcraft?
« on: Mon, 31 December 2012, 12:01:56 »
What do you think are the best switches for a RTS game like Starcraft?   For those that do not know Starcraft, it is a RTS game that requires a lot of keystrokes and spamming of the keyboard to play at a high level.  Please check out the video I have linked to get an idea of what a Starcraft player does in terms of keystrokes in a game which can last anywhere from 8 to 30 minutes.   I currently own browns and blacks, but considering on getting blues.  I ordered a sample pack from WASD to check out the other switches along with the 0-ring dampeners.

Edit:  The keyboard you see in the video is QSenn DT-35.  A lot of old school Brood War players use the QSenn because this was the most popular keyboard during the boom of PC Bangs in Korea in the early 2000's.  They were cheap and they are comfortable using it because they have been using it for such a long time.  But more and more pros are switching to mechanical keyboards.

A lot of people say reds are great for RTS games but I never really like it, was easy to hit keys by accident. I like blues and I tried clears which, for the time I had, seemed to work well.

Personally I like blues for SC2, I prefer reds for most games but for RTS and MOBA games I think blues are far more enjoyable.

No.  And I never heard of that.  I played in 2002-2003.  Did they have WCG in 2002-2003?  Did they allow Age of Empires II?  Do they allow it now?  Seeing as how M$ doesn't even want ppl to play the game since many years back (they closed down their IRC gameserver which cost like 0$ to operate); I don't think anyone would have a big tournament for an game that is now "undeground".  Or would they?

I prefer browns over blues because you can double tab faster but that is just my opinion.

There is no "best" switch for any game. Pick what works for you.

Also if you're going to get into serious competitive play? Don't waste your money on macro keyboards. Macro keys and external macroing is banned. (That's why you don't see stuff like the Corsair K90 in competitive play but a lot of stuff like the SteelSeries 6GV2.)
