Cheapest way to get a full set?
« on: Fri, 04 January 2013, 22:11:09 »
What is the cheapest way to get a full 104-key set (with readable lettering)?
PBT would be better, but isn't necessary.

The lowest I've found is about $35-45, but not sure if that included the numpad.

Alternatively, what key set would I most likely be able to trade/sell down the road (what would depreciate the least)?

Go give a look at this:

Vortex Thick PBT Dyesub 104-Keyset: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=37999.0

Feng selling some pbt for the price of abs or almost.

pbt is of much better quality. They last way longer, but cost more (usualy)

There is also some GB for special keysets, they are super nice but also cost a lil more and are usualy abs. If pbt they cost even more.

In the end it's all a personnal choice, but pbt set seems to be much easier to trade/sell since they stay in good shape for a long time, but some rare keyset also retain a great value too.

Snarky. While this is true, trying to ask for those prices on this forum seems a little unwise.

Yeah, the cheapest legit 108 key sets you're going to find is around 40. Id say that's a decent price for what you're getting to be entirely honest. Its not a ton.

You can find used Cherry Doubleshots for around $25. I've sold a bunch of sets at that price.
Risen from the dead for a model F.

Wyse buy colors were GSY for the dark grey, GBA for the light grey, and BBI for the fonts.

If you are okay with mismatched keycaps, I have a CMstorm set I don't care about, and I'm sure I can find a tenkey set somewhere. I also think I might have a set of (thin) cherry (lasered) PBT (with tenkey) that I don't need that I could let go of for cheap.

The cherry set will fit a modern computer (including capslock and modifiers) but you'll have to mod the spacebar, or get a different spacebar.

I have no problem with mismatched keys, and that would be quite awesome of you.

Another great idea (That I just thought of) is getting a keycap set from one of the rosewills that Newegg had for $25 recently. Lots of people bought them just for parts, and you'd get a full set. It's ABS though.

Ah, that is a good idea. I saw the thread but missed the sale, otherwise I might have gone for that too.

Sounds about right. I dabbed some Double Shots off a Non-working/ Sold as is/ broken Cherry POS Keyboard for $14 not including shipping.
Realistically I say about $25 to 60 depending on the seller.
