Altering MX Blue Switches
« on: Tue, 08 January 2013, 17:37:18 »
I like my MX Blues for the most part, however, I don't like the "clicky".  Reading about the MX blue, there is a tactile bump and clicky.  When you look at the picture, it appears as if the "clicky" part can be removed if you take off the top of the switch and remove that extra piece.  I've never tried this and don't want to risk damaging my board for something that might not work.

Has anyone ever tried this?  Or is there anything else I can do to remove that clicky sound?

I didn't think that will work.  The clicky part also has the tactile bump

If you remove the white part like I think you are, I don't think the switch will work since the white slider is whta goes through the crosspoint. Hench Cherry MX- X for Crosspoint.

The 'clicky' part is what cause the actuation pressing the crosspoint mechanism inside. If you remove it the slider would go up and down like a linear switch but nothing would ever register. I think you might like light whites however. White is not as sharply clicky and does not make so much noise but is much more tactile than brown. However they come with a much stiffer spring so you would need to exhange the stem into the blue switch and keep the blue springs.

Why did you make this in keycaps?

See I don't understand that.  According to the photos in Rip's guide, the tactile bump on the whites is identical to the blues...  Shouldn't it have the same tactile bump (perhaps even less because of the stiffer spring)?

As discussed in other thread, I believe it is made of a different plastic.
