The seller is a good guy.  I purchased a Model F from him last year and it came incredibly well packaged.

Is there a difference between XT and AT besides the connector?

^OMG yes....look at the key layout.  AT is vastly superior in every way.

Ah, I see. The XT does seem like it could be awkward. Thanks, AKIMbO.

I know people say the switches are superior to other buckling springs, but is the sound different?

The Model M is a plastic toy compared to a Model F.

And when you take them apart - the differences are even greater!
“No political truth is of greater intrinsic value, or is stamped with the authority of more enlightened patrons of liberty: The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands .… may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.” —James Madison, Federalist 47
“All the powers of government, legislative, executive, and judiciary, result to the legislative body. The concentrating of these in the same hands, is precisely the definition of despotic government. An ELECTIVE DESPOTISM was not the government we fought for; but one .... in which the powers of government should be so divided and balanced among several bodies of magistracy, as that no one could transcend their legal limits, without being effectually checked and restrained by the others.” — Thomas Jefferson, commentary on Federalist 48

The sound is nice, you can do a floss mod if it's too much for you. It's more metalic, whereas the Model M has a plasticky sound, as fohat mentioned. The actuation force is much lower than Model M. This is what guided me to Model F, the Model M keys are too hard for my fingers. On Model F AT, the spacebar is hard too, and if you want to make it lighter you have to open the keyboard. It's not hard, but you have to pay attention. There is a lot of info on GH about this.
