Fees on Keyboard Shipping to Canada? (The Keyboard Co.)
« on: Wed, 16 January 2013, 00:49:16 »
Hey everyone it's my first time posting and I'm not sure if this would be the right place for this thread but it seems to be where most questions similar to this are asked. Anyway I'm looking to order my first Filco board specifically the Majestouch 2 Ninja with Brown Switches. I live in Canada and I first located the keyboard I wanted on NCIX but sadly it is on "back order" (they pretty much have every other board in stock, go figure) and has been for over a month now, so I kept looking and it seems to the next best place is Keyboard Co. Now my question is has anyone on here ordered a keyboard from them and had it shipped to them in Canada and if so was there any custom fees or tax fees associated with it once it arrived? I've never ordered anything from the UK before and typically get most things from the States and so far to date I haven't had to pay any customs or anything like that on items I've ordered but I'm a little unsure about this. Any information is much appreciated, thanks a lot!  :D

In USA when I buy things from UK the shipping is totally reasonable and there is no tax of any kind.  That means no customs fees, no delays, no VAT, no nothing.

I donno if it works like that in Canada but I am interested to learn.

Rosewill RK-9000RE #2 (Lubed, still in the box.  I am afraid to use it because it will break like the first one)

Me and my g/f had ordered our Filco from there.  We also live in Canada.

So we ordered 1 full size Filco and 1 tenkeyless Filco.  Price is around $160 + $160 (both Filco) + $30 (shipping) + $60 (customs) so we end up with close to $400 for 2 Filco.  Customs is a bit of luck, so you might be able to get away with it but no one knows for sure.  Shipping fee I'd imagine won't be much cheaper for 1 keyboard.

Realistically I'd say expect it to be around $200 for 1 keyboard.  But it did arrive in 3-4 days so it's fairly fast.  So I guess it depends on how much you want it and how long you're willing to wait  :P

Wow thanks for the really fast responses! :p But yeah with the cost of the board and shipping it's about $180 CDN, which is what I was expecting to pay but I just really didn't know what the customs or tax fees may be. I've heard some horror stories with people ordering electronics outside of North America and ending up with some big custom fees + taxes. Also I forgot to mention this was the TKL version.

i'm not sure if you folks in canada can get free shipping from amazon like those of us in the US, but if so, you should know that the keyboard co is expecting to be supplying amazon with a new shipment of filco browns around easter time.  i know this because i just emailed them to ask about a week ago.  i don't know if that applies to the ninja variant though -- you'll have to email them and ask if you want that specific bit of info.

if you're willing to wait until then, you can get it for much cheaper than buying from keyboard co directly.
