usb to ps2 adapter for keyboard
« on: Thu, 17 January 2013, 14:17:16 »
Hello

I currently own a USB keyboard and it has a very poor key rollover. I am wondering whether if I purchase and use a USB to ps2 adapter I will get NKRO? Or would I have to purchase a keyboard that already comes with a ps2 keyboard connector for NKRO to work?

Cheerssss

It sounds to me like your keyboard has 2kro or 3kro and needs to be replaced.

There are USB keyboards made which work with a PS/2 adapter.  But there is some sort of unwritten rule that these keyboards ship with the adapter in the box.

The USB keyboards that say "This keyboard has 104kro when used with the PS/2 adapter" all feature 6kro when used on USB.

It sounds to me like your keyboard does not currently have 6kro.  Therefore adding an adapter won't help you.

When you buy your next keyboard just make sure it has nkro and works with PS/2 and you will have no problems at all and can spend the rest of your life being happy and pwning newbs  :D

There are MANY keyboards from many companies that have NKRO and work on PS/2.  But the only kind I actually recommend are the ones from WASDkeyboards.com with Cherry MX Red switches.

But get whatever you like.

Have you actually experienced ghosting or do you just like the sound of NKRO?  I ask because I can type all day on my Model M without running into problems, and it is 2KRO.

Sorry to ask this question in your thread but I thought it would be better than just creating a new one.  How come my keyboard doesn't work when I attach a ps2 adapter.  I have a filco.

Because you plugged PS/2 in while the PC was already on.

PS/2 is not hot swappable.

Turn off your computer.  Plug in PS/2 keyboard.  Turn on computer.  Voila!  It works!
