That is what I thought you meant, just wanted to check.  Will have to keep an eye out then and do my research when they actually come out!

I use two 23 inch monitors right now. I would ideally like to have 3 27'' monitors. All LED, 1080p. Would be a little bit more pricy than what i have right now though. Plus, i'd have to sell my current monitors of course though.

yes 23 for 1080 and 24 for 1200 and personally i think 1440 is more suited to 29in but that doest exist but 1600 for 30in does :D

My roommate has a $1200 monitor and frankly I don't see much of a difference between that and my $400 one. Monitors are the one thing I just don't get excited about, the quality between something that costs $1000 more just seems negligible. And these 4k UHD monitors, seriously? Who would ever need that? Just another meaningless technology d!*k measuring contest.

4k is actually a big step forward the problem I see with it currently though is distrobution due to the large file size.

I have an Apple 30" (4:3) on my treadmill desk, and the latest Apple 27" (16:9) on my normal desk.

After using a Retina MacBook Pro, it's hard to respect ANY monitor... The dream monitor would be the same pixel density as the 13" or 15", but in 27-30".

220dpi+

That's a LOT of pixels. It'll happen, but might take a couple years.

Specifically: 5120 x 2880, but the same screen real estate as the current 27", unless you enable the scaling like on a Retina MacbookPro which is slightly fuzzy.

I personally wouldn't mind an IBM T220\T221\Rebadge. The reason being is it's a 21" monitor (small enough for fit my desk), and it's a 16:10 monitor which is just awesome. There's even one on ebay right now, but I don't have $700 burning a hole in my pocket :(.

The downside is it needs 2x Dual-Link DVI to run, which means you're really limited to one, but with 3840x2400 why would you need more than one?

I'm planning to build a new rig in the next few months, and I'm going to add either a Crossover or Nixeus 27" when I do.  The Dell 30 inch monitors are awesome.  But since the system I plan on building is only slightly more than the cost of a Dell I just can't bring myself to buy one.   :))

When it comes to monitors, for me bigger is better. My interest in 4k is that it promises to finally push through the current 30" maximum that we've been saddled with for the past several years.

Up until a couple weeks ago I've been using a generic 17" Dell CRT (a gift from my previous employers who couldn't make payroll) and now that the PC it was on is dead I think I want to upgrade ... but ... I still want to stick with a CRT.

Any recommendations on CRT's smaller than 21"?  It seems like the last models to roll out were the most perfect a CRT could be BUT had longevity issues.

edit: is this any good?  I found this on craigslist for free

Yes, it's good.  I had one for a few years.  Paid 65 USD in 2005, to replace a 19" LCD which sucked bad in comparison.  Sold it for 25 USD in 2007 to a co-worker.  Does 1600x1200 at about 85Hz just fine; can theoretically do 2048x1536 at 60Hz.  In the worst case, a TV/monitor repair shop should be able to address  anything faulty about it.  Sony has a tendency to always build in some sort of long-term flaw to everything they make.

Actually, CRT quality plummeted in the last few years of their existence-- the only people buying CRTs-- aside from Eizos and similar niche-market premium products-- were the people making really cheap PC bundles with the cheapest screen you can get.

Most of us used to professional monitors called that "the whole damn Aperture Grill pile of crap" AKA Trinitron. Mostly because the rebrands (Sun, etc.) were still using straight-out-of-the-80's method. (Meanwhile in late model Mitsubishi Diamond-YESPLEASE-Tron land...) The list of problems with Sony CRTs though, man. Talk about something that would eat reams of paper.
The truly sad thing is that I was also a very early adopter of LCD/TFT, and no, I don't mean laptops. I mean I owned SGI 1600SW's and the prerequisite #9 RevolutionIV cards. Woo, IPS is ... closer to tolerable. But other than that? The technology really hasn't improved nearly as much as they'd have you believe. No, it's just a lot cheaper to make and sell than CRT.

And you know why the GDM-5410's cheap? A) Sun means 13W3 input only, and only behaves right with certain chipsets due to deliberate timing ****ery even though it's a multi-freq multi-sync - or it's the HD15 with timing ****ery B) your eyes will bleed out if the power bill doesn't bankrupt you first. I would always swap 5410's for the slightly less awful GDM-20E21 (SGI) or GDM-20D21's - they seemed to usually be good for 8-12 years between rejuves.

Well, as I said, Sony Trinitron was always pretty crap IME/IMO - not just toward the end. Though toward the end, there's two true legendary tubes from Philips (one was a Philips-Hitachi joint project) which got cut. The original Philips Brilliance 201P is probably to this day the gold standard of CRT - the first revision was a wreck. But the initial release? Cost you about a thousand bucks and did 2048x2048 @ 72Hz if you could find the card to drive it. The downside? It weighs 94lbs, has a 2" bezel, and pulls down close to 2.5A. I called my pair "the desk crushers."

27" Apple LED Cinema Display hooked into my PC and my Hackintosh. It's absolutely beautiful. I dig the glass overtop of it, it helps make the colors that much more luscious IMO. The way the lighting in my room is glare is never an issue. I only have soft yellow lighting in my apartment, a lot of my friends hate it, but it reminds me of home, before everyone became obsessed with bright white fluorescent **** that makes you have a headache and feel like you're in the ER. I imagine most people who complain about the Apple displays having glare have tons of those kinds of lights around. 2560x1440 Makes me happy, especially when running beautiful games like crysis, and I can switch to 1080 for anything having trouble. But honestly, I cant imagine having anything sharper than this, I certainly wouldnt be willing to pay for it. 2560x1440 is all I'll ever need.

If I remember correctly from work, Cinematic 4K is defined as being a frame that fits as much as possible within 4096 × 2160. In other words, either the width is 4096 or the height is 2160 and you can have black bars on the top and bottom or on the left and right depending on the aspect ratio.
4K TV is 3840 × 2160.

I'd like a Thunderbolt display, as it would also act as a Thunderbolt dock for my MBA, which is pretty short on connectivity.  I'll probably just settle on getting a Korean IPS like this one from MC: http://www.microcenter.com/product/384780/EQ276W_27_IPS_LED_Monitor

y'all need to get on my level
10 monitors in less than 2 years...

1) GNR 15"  4:3 about as many pixels as a potato after i was poor from building a rig
2) UMC 20" TV, had it lying about...was 1080p but still ****e...really got screwed up when using it on the desktop
3) AOC 21.5" tn 1080p with the GNR 15" as a secondary, felt good after being on utter ****e, but it got scratched at a lan and as soon as i saw an IPS...i was sold
4) Dell U2142m 1920x1200 24" IPS with the AOC next to i....amazing monitor, great clarity and my first experience of both IPS and 16:10,
5 + 6) dell p2210 (1680x1050 22" tn) and dell u2142m, my first proper 3 monitor setup...PLP layout, was great and i still think it was a great bang for buck decision, although the TN viewing angles bothered me as did the height differences a bit, okay tn panels...good setup still
7) dell u2711 + 2xp2210(PLP)....saw it going cheap locally had to jump on it. WOW, amazing what a difference 1440p makes and my god the colour oh the colours...
8+9) dell 2007wfpb 1600x1200 IPS LLL with the dell u2711..nice but then i fliped em portrait PLP...so much nicer, soo i then longed for them to match up...que monitor number 10
10) dell 3007wfp, ahhhh back to 16:10 sorta....im using it PLP with the 2007wfpb' at a total res of 4960x1600, games look glorious too if you can get em to run plp, should be easier with the new whatsit called display port box thing coming out. the 3007wfp is very nice despite two dead pixels which i very rarely notice and 4960x1600 is glorious, its like having a bigger u2711 that curves around you and has more verticle height..image quality of the 3007wfp is perhaps marginally worse, and i occasionally very occasionally notice the slow response times
it was also a ***** to get running monitor>Dual link DVI cable>dual link dvi display port adapter> display port to mini display port> GPU

sooo yeah i think ive finally reached perfection(lol nahhh, also 4k brah) and ive just about tried it all (tried LLL on mates rig toooo wide) sorta tried PPP with my P2210s and the u2142m, but i cant seen myself using it as i watch a lot of films, i could see a reading/workstation being good with PP

whats next? a triple monitor stand and a fourth monitor, something 16:9 for media, on a swing arm mount for chat and for an auxillary when i can run PLP games etc
will post some pics of my setup over the past year in a bit.

pics:
AOC+GNR..oldest back i have, that gnr was my only monitor for a month...hell

the p2210s in PLP with the u2142m

u2711 PLP
1 dell 2007wfpb
[img]http://i.imgur.com/AJa4fqL.jpg">>

2 dell 2007wfpb and the u2711 LLL

no pics of new monitors as i have a new desk and am moving stuff around etc. hell i cant even run it on my own rig till i get the displayport to mini display port through the post, i borrowed an old gpu and used it for a bit.

so yeah...that was a long winded post.

I remember seeing a curved monitor by Alienware that always looked good, not really sure if they were ever actually for sale though.

Not really sure about the bezels, maybe they know there are more TV sales and they need to be more stylish?

I have never been a fan of three monitor setups but have to admit that this looks amazing.

xD Lovin' that design Davin. Was that a production model?

Definitely the best monitor, looks wise, that I've ever seen  :)

I'm sure they were mega discounted before they were discontinued by Dell but I didn't pick one up due to the unfavourable reviews + they are not friendly for dual screen

It's almost worth suffering the shortcomings just to have a piece of bling like that in the office!

I would love to see 32" or 40" LED IPS ultrawide:)
Oh, and ultra thin bezel:)

or simply bezel-less top-bottom 24" IPS LED so I could put 3 of them vertically.

..and high 2560x res via HDMI!
