« on: Fri, 25 January 2013, 15:42:35 »
Hi. Anyone know where I could get an ibm model m controller to swap my existing one? I think it's gone bad.

what model?

I don't see M5-1, M5-2, M13, or Unicomp in there! You're slacking!

Blame Ripster, that is his photo.

And no, I don't have any for sale. I have a couple in the junk pile, that I think are dead, but I could not sell them in good conscience.

Explains the error. Whoops, did I say that out loud?

Anyhow, I'm short on controller myself as well. Wouldn't want to sell one separate anyhow, since I'd feel bad if it ended up not working. But I can put on my thinking hat if you want to attempt repairs. A lot of the time, apparent bad controllers aren't - it's usually loose connections, bad ground or matrix problems. All easy enough to fix yourself in a few minutes. (Yes, minutes!)

What are the symptoms it's showing?

Open up the keyboard and get the model number off the sticker on the controller.  Then file a support request with Unicomp, asking if they have a compatible controller.  There's a good chance they'll be able to fix you up.

What's wrong with them? Are they completely silent or do they do some goofy things?

I've had few model Ms and never seen a broken controller, besides an M2 with dried capacitor.
