Anyone considered 3D printing for making (or testing for fit) a keyboard case? How much would it cost? I doubt there would be demand for a 3D printed case, but I would imagine it might be good for prototyping...

Thoughts/Discussion please (feel free to shoot the idea down, but please do it in words with a positive connotation due to no tones on the internet.)

I think when Dox got the one printed up for his ErgoDox, it was something like ~$50 per piece, with each half requiring 2 pieces... it's buried somewhere in here: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=22780.690

The case bottom I designed for a TKL  board is $90 at Shapeways.

Ooh. that's far more affordable than CNC Aluminum. Definitely more viable for a prototyping medium than CNC Aluminum for fitting.


Completely agree with Acetrak. I want to see that TKL case.

It looks like there is a keyboard case for 60% up there when you search the keyword "keyboard" but it is not for sale. =(

actually, I didn't get it from the Big Bang theory. I just knew about it (known about it for about a year or 2) and thought it would make a good prototyping solution so you don't spend $1500 on CNC aluminum because the fitting was half an inch off.
