Need help with a final decision on a board
« on: Mon, 11 March 2013, 21:04:36 »
I have my final pick of 3 keyboards and need help/feedback on either decision.  What I want to do is get a white on white keyboard, or preferably have the option to get the Vortex Aluminum case.  So I love the options I get with the Filco but the cost is deterring me.  The QFR is readily available for me at a local store and is cheap, but it will be a bit harder to put the case on it.  The WASD V2 is coming soon and would be cheaper to get the keycaps with the custom board.  This is my dilemma, anyone care to help with my situation?

TL;DR:  What differentiates the Filco from the QFR and WASD V2.

Thanks in advance.

Mainly internals. But if I had to pick one I would wait out for the WASD v2. That looks to be quite promising. QFR is the best bang for the buck though.

IMO.. If you only plan on having one keyboard and you want it now, just get the Filco.

I'm going to say a Filco. Unless you have budget concerns I think they're amazing boards.

@Brown

I have thought about this question a lot.

I am waiting for the WASD.

I am sorry I got the QFR.
Rosewill RK-9000RE #1 (Broke on day 26, fixed with Scotch Tape on day 42, barely holding together)
Rosewill RK-9000RE #2 (Lubed, still in the box.  I am afraid to use it because it will break like the first one)

QFR boards are the best bang for your buck but they have had some QA woes lately. CMs QA at the factory is not quite as thorough as Filco. If you buy a CM QFR get it from Amazon, so you can RMA it through amazon if it goes bad.

I would get the filco if you only want one board.

I like keyboards and case modding.  Everything about a computer should be silent -- except the KEYBOARD!

Agree with zoolzoo. Nothing could go wrong with a Filco. It is a safe choice. You may regret it if you get another board with quality you are not completely satisfied with (considering the money you spent on it).

@Dubsgalore  I kinda did want a numpad, but then I grew out of wanting one, TKL looks way nicer without it although it'll be hard to get used to since I use one at my job.

I might as well get a Filco huh,  I'll look at NCIX.ca next time they have a sale.  Now I just have to see what switch I really like.  I've tried all of them (except green) at a local Canada Computers and I really liked the Blacks, but only on certain keyboards it seems to change in feel for every board.  Browns felt really weird, and reds seem to easy to touch.  I liked the feel of the blacks on the Azio Mech4 but hated it on the Steelseries 6GV2, anybody know the difference between the two or is it just me?

Thing is the switch from the blacks on the Mech to the blacks on the 6GV2 was really dramatic, not sure if I would really like them if it had the blacks of a 6G.  Only if there was something between the reds and the blacks.  What I'm thinking is that I might just drive up to an NCIX store and see if they'll let me try it out, however it's quite far.
