Centered Legends
« on: Fri, 15 March 2013, 12:41:05 »

I am a big fan of key caps with centered legends found on sets like the Dolch Replica and Round 3 style. Given that are fairly hard to come by, I was curious if there were other sets out there that use this same centered legend style?

The only other sets I've seen have been the non-backlit key cap sets found on the Pure and Oni, like this one. Any others out there that I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!

Centered Legend Sets
   - Dolch Replica (SP)
   - Round 3 style (SP)
   - Retro DCS (SP)
   - Vortex Non-Backlit (OEM)

Not that uncommon on vintage boards either. For example

Though with these you will likely quickly become frustrated if you want to use them on a modern board due to not having all the needed key sizes.

I love centered legends. I really wanted to get in on the DSA group buy but I was too late, and when there were some unclaimed orders afterward, I was too broke. I think the Dolch set is even better though, I love that colour (shade?) scheme.

I also like the centered legends, which is why I ordered Round 3 sets in Round 4.  Since the Cherry replica project is going to be in the standard upper-left location, these would have to be Wyse if they are coming from SP.  I wouldn't bother with another Dolch-alike set, though.  I have to think that these are going to be available in the classifieds for some time once R4 does ship.

I LOVE centered legends. That R3 is probably one of my favorite sets ever. It's on my long term to buy list.

Me too, but if you search for g80-3800 it comes up and it appears that there are centered legends on these boards. POM and laser engraved.

You can (of course) design key caps with centered legends in WASD Keyboards key cap designer ...

That's a good point Findecanor. I've been waiting for their new custom keyboard designer to be released before I order a set, but here's the link to what I've designed thus far. Note, it does require Flash.

Below are a couple of screen caps.

I wonder if they would do laser etching with the font that big?

Yup that's correct, I was thinking of buying one just for fun and to try out POM cherry profile caps. It's 59.99 for the one with cherry blacks, the keycaps are worth half that price alone imo.

EDIT: I found one in the US NCIX although it's not on sale. http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=75698&vpn=G80-3800LUBEU-2&manufacture=Cherry

Except the 3800 does not use Cherry profile, but something even lower. Also if you like it you should get the 3850 instead as it is supposed to be much higher quality and is the first platemount board as stock from Cherry since the 80's.

Lower than cherry profile? Now I really want to try them. My girlfriend wants a mechanical but can't stand most profiles. She's coming from this hunk of crap...

I have her using my Zibal 60 right now with the stock OEM caps. She's doesn't like the profile at all.

I could grab these caps and stick them on the Zibal and see what its like.
