Keyboards for sale
« on: Thu, 28 February 2008, 01:44:26 »
First up are some Alps 'boards:

On top is a Macally MK96 with clicky white Alps sliders, ADB connector
2 Apple Desktop Bus keyboards, top one has pink Alps switches, ADB connector.
bottom one has orange Alps and an ADB connector.
On the side, Another Apple Desktop Bus, an earlier model with fake Alps black switches, you guessed it, an ADB connector. (I have one iMate adaptor, and if someone buys all these, or enough of them, I'll throw it in for free.)

The paint on the white keys is easy enough to remove, the paint on the case on the middle keyboard and the dark keys on the sideways one on the right doesn't come off. The one with orange Alps switches has one or two dead switches and a key with the stem broke off, but I figured I'd offer it here for some modders or someone for back up switches, and I don't want much money for them. I have a total of three ADB cables, BTW.

The Macally is about a month old, but I'd sell it for cheap enough.

Next up for grabs is a Datalux Desk Model with Cherry ML switches.

This is cool looking and it is a fast little keyboard, but I can't use it at work because a lot of my shortcuts that currently are one handed take two hands on it. It comes with a USB to PS/2 adaptor, and it has a USB connector.

Are you willing to replace all the original keys onto the Macally?

I can't. They are from the SMK85 which is already gone, the buyer liked the mixed up keys.

Hey xsphat, what does the Macally feel like? Are they louder or quieter than the Extended I?

My only points of reference are the Apple Extended I and Extended II- I love the I, the II not so much.

Much appreciated. Even if you're still not selling your Macally, the info would be useful if I try to pick one up on EBay.

Thanks

It has white Alps sliders - clicky and mechanical sounding, loud and tactile. I think they are best Alps switches since they don't have rubber bumpers on the bottom of them. It's a nice keyboard, I still pull it out sometimes for some clicky goodness. Search eBay and you will find a seller with around a hundred of them for $10 a pop. This is where I bought mine.

If memory serves, the Apple keyboards didn't use clicky sliders, so this keyboard would most likely feel a little crisper and snappier and would most defiantly be louder.

So, about your brown cherry filco....

I recently got a white alps keyboard, and I've replaced my model f with my white alps as my daily keyboard since white alps really boosted my WPM.

Is the brown cherry switches really tactile, does it offer VERY LITTLE resistance to pressing the keys? You see, I got sick of buckling spring because I needed to apply more force to activate a key. The white alps alleviated this problem, but if brown cherries require even less force, I'm all game for it. What's your experience with the browns? I'm kind of edging towards the blues, but if the scorpius M10 and the Das keyboard are the only boards with blue cherries, I think the browns are the way to go.

The browns have the lightest touch I've felt. They literally take a flick of the fingers to actuate. They are quick and responsive. I think you might want to look into the browns, but then again you can get 3 M10s or 2 Das IIs for what I got my Filco for, and the price went up since then. I still say the Filco is worth every cent I paid, so is the HHKB Pro 2 which has the best form factor ever.

I have sold some of the others in the photo already. There wasn't much interest here so I sold them elsewhere. You sound pretty miffed, do you want me to have iMav close the thread?

I can't say, I've only used the iMate in Windows XP on my MacBook in Boot Camp, but when I did that, it worked great.

I am interested in buying a keyboard with a smaller footprint than the Apple Extended II. How would you compare the Alps switches on the Macally and the AE? They should be the same, right?

Too bad the seller charges a ridiculous $154.18 US to ship it to Europe via UPS and isn't willing to use cheaper shipping methods (like USPS).

Ouch, I can't really say it's worth that much. If you have a friend in the states, you should have them get it for you.

By the way people, the only keyboard for sale I have left is the Datalux typewriter looking thing with ML switches. I'd like to get $30 for it, but make an offer. It goes for $150 new, and I will ship worldwide, most likely at a better rate than the eBay guy.
