Looking for recommendation for first mechanical keyboard!
« on: Fri, 22 March 2013, 02:02:55 »
Hi all,

I'm thinking about getting my first mechanical kb. My friend recommended me the Ducky shine 2 brown switches (I like the blue LED version), but I was looking to get a few other recommendations. Here are the features I want/prefer:

- Full keyboard (with numpad)
- Media keys (at least volume up, down and mute)
- Brown switches

And some things that would be nice but not at all necessary:

- About $100-$150 price tag
- LED lights
- Disconnectable wires
- Choice between wired/wireless (Does this even exist for keyboards?)
- Macro keys (least important)

I'd prefer a really good quality keyboard over any of those last 3 features. I'm going to be using it for playing SC2.

Can anyone recommend me something?

This Rosewill backlit kb matches what you seek:

There's also the Max Nighthawk X8 (I have one and it's great):

Thanks, I like the look of the X8. Strongly considering it. The only problem is it seems like it's quite hard to get. I live in Sydney, Australia and the shipping cost from their site is about $65 which is quite ridiculous (it's almost half the price of the keyboard itself). From TheKoolRoom.com there is an economy option for $18 which is much better but still quite high - the only thing is I've no idea what TheKoolRoom is like, are they reliable? How fast will they ship the item, etc

If you're in Australia you may want to check out PCcasegear.com's keyboard selection; they seem to have a decent selection, some overpriced a bit, but still beats international shipping.

Yea I have been looking at PCG, as well as staticice. There's quite a few selection and I'm not sure which ones to look at.

Another option may be to get a 20% discount by doing a group buy. Just PM sam.cpcr asking for a code and he should give one to you.
