New to mech keyboards, considering WASD with PBT caps
« on: Wed, 27 March 2013, 21:42:45 »
Hey guys, I'm relatively new to mech keyboards having never owned one..  I've been trying to balance quality and price at the moment, I think my ideal setup may be a filco majestouch 2 with PBT keycaps but from what I understand, they come with ABS caps and you can't buy a filco "barebones."  I'd like to try and save some money by either buying a board that comes with PBT caps or a barebones board without caps to save some money and then get the PBT separately.

From what I found so far, I've seen that WASD sells barebones boards, would these caps fit the board well?

Do you guys have some suggestions on alternative boards, caps, or setups, or vendors that distribute to the US?

Those keycaps would fit fine. A good set-up for a first keyboard, in fact.

Shipping from China will tke a while - get the keycaps on order first.

I like keyboards and case modding.  Everything about a computer should be silent -- except the KEYBOARD!

I'm pretty sure most of qtan's PBT caps are the thin-walled type (or at least thinner than imsto's thick PBT caps), and OEM profile (versus lower profiles sets like the cherrys/cherry replicas).  You could ask qtan about them directly at his vender forum here:

IMSTO sells Thick PBT Keycaps but i dont think i have ever seen side printed caps on his taobao page. Also, i have never bought anything from his taobao so i have no idea how long it takes. probably a few weeks since it be from china and ****.

if you insists on thick pbt imsto is the way to go.  but you may have to compromise on the side print.  not sure.

keep it wu-tang
