Hi!
« on: Wed, 03 April 2013, 16:43:44 »
Hey, everyone! I've been checking out this forum for a couple weeks now and decided to finally join after pondering endlessly about getting a new keyboard. I currently own a Steelseries 6Gv2 with MX Blacks and love it. I'll eventually equip it with some new keycaps :)

I'm looking into buying a KBT Pure with MX Blacks and PBT caps. It's within my budget and I'd really love to try a tenkeyless. A bit worried about the layout but I can adapt.

Welcome to Geekhack and great choice on the switch there.  Cherry MX black's hardly getting any love around here. lol  :)

Welcome to WalletClack. You'll figure out why it's called that later :))

I agree with Reaper. We don't see a lot of Black switches here. I don't personally own any linear switches, but I just have one keyboard, so I can't tell whether I'd like them or not.

Technically, we call the Pure a "60%" board, not a Tenkeyless (although that description is accurate). A "true" Tenkeyless is a normal keyboard layout, just without the 10key (IE has invert-T arrows, insert/delete column, function keys, etc) There's also "80%" boards, with function and arrow keys, but all clumped together (see MX Mini or KBT Race).

Thanks! Yeah, I've seen that blacks aren't the most popular in places. My friend uses blues and reds himself, so I've been able to try those types but still prefer blacks over them.

Yeah, I've noticed how the Pure isn't exactly a Tenkeyless, though it still gets classified under that name in some stores/websites. I've studied the normal Tenkeyless boards like the Filcos tenkeyless and the popular budget CM Storm QuickFire Rapid. I've also looked up the KBT Race as well and was interested in it until I read somewhere that customizing the keycaps can be a pain due to varying sizes. I've yet to buy caps but it'll eventually happen.

Backlighting isn't really important to me, which is why I'm going for the Pure with PBTs sans backlight. But I have ran into a KBT Pure thread here with some sweet pictures of the backlit versions, but I'll survive without it.
