Ducky Zero or Zowie Celeritas?
« on: Thu, 04 April 2013, 18:50:21 »
Hey peeps,

I've settled down to buying either a brown Ducky Zero or Zowie Celeritas keyboard. Assuming that they cost the same amount of money, which one would you prefer and why?

The kb will be used mainly for 80% typing, 20% gaming, so the Zowie speed mod is essentially useless, and so are the dip switches on the ducky, I reckon. Leds are useless, things that matter mainly is key quality and less key resonance (ping). Thank you in advance for helping me settling this issue that has taken DAYS out of my free time. :)

Ducky has way better stock keycap and probably slightly better over all build quality, and I prefer the aesthetics much more over Zowie.

I've only seen one Ducky keyboard in person, but I was very impressed by the solidity and quality.  Nothing against Zowie, but my vote would be for the Ducky.

Another vote for Ducky here. The Ducky Zero is supposed to be a really great keyboard for the price.

lol really?  I mean I don't know too much about Zowie but is Ducky Zero that well regarded?  I read a review mentioning they changed the manufacturing location from Taiwan to China to offset the new features and cost (so price remain the same even though the keyboard suppose to be better).

So on paper it does looks better but I'm just wondering for real world testing if anyone know if it's actually good?

I said the same thing in the past but then I got mega chewed out for assuming that Taiwan manufacturing was better than Chinese.

On the topic of Ducky though, I absolutely love Ducky. The newer higher model Duckys have all the features of a Filco and more. I would go Ducky everytime... but then again, every Ducky I've owned was made in Taiwan...  :))

lol I thought statistically speaking for mechanical keyboards that generally Taiwanese made ones are better than Chinese made ones?  No?  Kinda like German made Cherry keyboards are better than Cherry keyboards made in other places (Forgot what other countries make them).

Though I think if it weren't for cherry stabilizer I'd probably pull the trigger on Ducky already  :P

That and I'm not big on their logo, so I'd rather have a non-backlit spacebar or just a dash across the top.  Though I guess it's not thatttttt big of a deal lol maybe I'd still get them one day.

Hehe. I personally don't mind Cherry stabilizers so that's not an issue and the only branding they have is on like 1-3 keycaps which are removable so not an issue (they don't usually brand their cases). You should definitely pick one up next time, if you get the chance :)

Zowie Celeritas US (104keys) has non ANSI mechanical layout. Same layout could be found on SteelSeries 6Gv2. It has '\' in the place, where most touch typists expect right shift. That could be a problem if you are (or will be in the future) touch typist.
While Zowie Celeritas 105keys satisfy ISO mechanical layout.
BTW, Zowie use non common material for keycaps (nylon).

Forgot what other countries make them
czech republic.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

In other words, one is basically USA-China; the other is European layout?

one of the keys i hate the most is that big ugly return key on the 105

What does your "basically" mean? Keyboard either satisfies standard layout (ANSI, ISO, ..) or does not.
If you touch type "USA" on Zowie Celeritas US, it will most likely become "U\s\a", if you didn't have experience with such layout before.
