Razer Taipan or SteelSeries Kinzu V2 Ruberized

Hey there,

My wife called me from Best Buy and asked me if i needed anything. I needed a mouse but didn't have much time to research, so i asked her to buy a Razer Taipan. Now she's on plane coming back to Turkey
I don't really like the look for Razer mouses cause of all the gamer-look, but Taipan looked more "normal".
Right now i'm looking at some SteelSeries models and i loved the way SteelSeries Kinzu V2 Rubberized look.
I can sell the Razer before opening it, and get myself a Kinzu V2..I never used any "fancy" mouse before..
Anyone used both? And yeah, i play games. Mostly fps.
I don't like the green light on Razer, i'll probably shut it down, since everything i use have blue leds...(cherry browns, dell lcd..)

I'm a huge fan of the Taipan shape. So far, my favorite. But, I am a little suspect of its build quality. Two of the Taipans I've owned started having issues with the body creaking whenever I would click the main mouse buttons. Something like this is what I should have anticipated, given it's Razer.

For the last 4 years, i'm using the same $5 HP mouse, still works like a charm i would expect the same thing from a $80 mouse...

Yea... well, that's what you get with Razer. All those extra dollars are for their advertising and marketing.

I love my Taipan. Also, it has 4 more buttons than the Kinzu and is a bit larger. If you don't care about the extra buttons, then by all means: go with the Kinzu.

Otherwise I'd suggest a Sensei RAW. And if that's too big for you, go with the Steelseries Kana. I've also been hearing good things about the Zowie FK (which is a narrower mouse at the base, much like the Taipan).

I think the Kinzu v2 still has the bad sensor, I'd go for the Taipan easily.

No idea about the sensor, but I know they fixed the prediction in V2. It's a much better firmware at least.

I really like Taipan's shape last time I tried it. Except it's a little bit too long for my hand size.  While Krait might've been good but it's missing side buttons.  So if only they can come out with something in between  =____=

Kinzu V2 seems like a good choice also but again it's missing side buttons.  So I guess in your case depending on if you want side buttons or not also your hand size (Taipan = Big, Kinzu = Small).

I'm using a Kinzu v2 right now, very happy with it Can highly recommend it! I do have a big hand it it comfortably engulfs the mouse, and I do hate the extra buttons on most mice, the Kinzu on has one behind the mouse wheel which increases the DPI dramatically (not really sure why)

The dpi key is, obviously, for switching between dpi, I can't remember how the kinzu software works, but some people like to use different dpi settings for different applications etc.
It's a fairly useless feature in regular use, but it lets you choose if you want high or low dpi if you just plug it in with no software. Imagine if it was set to 800 dpi default and you were used to 1800.
Just having a single dpi button is a bit annoying, though, since it only lets you have two steps. I prefer having dpi up and dpi down buttons as that allows for more than 2 steps. Alternatively, they could at least have let you set more steps and just have the single button cycling between them instead of just switching between two steps.

I'm a claw-gripper, but I personally find the Taipan to be too narrow for my hand. I really like the "Control Grip" on the logitech G9x. It is just perfect for me. Taipan tracks well though. I had no problems with performance.
