Ebay: Model M2 terminal keyboard
« on: Tue, 16 April 2013, 07:33:40 »

This appears to be a Model M2 with weird connector.  Can it be adapted with Soarer's converter or similar?

it looks like the "normal" 4p4c connector that ibm uses for their terminals. I don't think its worth the $60 though, just for a "selectric touch" KB.

M2s are something of a rarity and one seller on Ebay is asking $250 for one!  So I've started mentioning them as a great find.  I have never used one myself so I don't know just how much worse it is than the good old Model M.

The M2 could have been great - but wasn't.

I have bought 2 and both were dead. I may have one in the basement that would be good for parts, if somebody needs it.
“No political truth is of greater intrinsic value, or is stamped with the authority of more enlightened patrons of liberty: The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands .… may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.” —James Madison, Federalist 47
“All the powers of government, legislative, executive, and judiciary, result to the legislative body. The concentrating of these in the same hands, is precisely the definition of despotic government. An ELECTIVE DESPOTISM was not the government we fought for; but one .... in which the powers of government should be so divided and balanced among several bodies of magistracy, as that no one could transcend their legal limits, without being effectually checked and restrained by the others.” — Thomas Jefferson, commentary on Federalist 48

Isn't there a common problem where a capacitor on the M2 dies?

From what I've read, yes. it's a common controller issue. Some people have fixed theirs by replacing it, and on some it didn't work.

Here's an example thread from GH: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=31813.msg601755#msg601755
