I am looking at getting a LED backlit keyboard, but I don't want the LED's on all the time

I want them to turn off after a certain period of no key press, then on key press turn on again.

anything around like this?

i've never owned a LED backlit keyboard, so maybe their already like this?

I don't think any of them do that...the only ones that does that is from a laptop backlit keyboard.

You could always stop powering the USB port after some period of time. Waking it up again would a bit tricky though.

Then it won't respond when pressing the key.

The problem is, no desktop keyboards seem to support the exact same backlight feature set as laptop keyboards. What you can do though as a happy medium is get a Razer keyboard and install Synapse; that suite allows the keyboard to be configured to turn off the backlight when the display sleeps. I think that's the closest you are going to get to what you want.

There nothing that does this available commerically, but it could be maybe possible with some custom with the right firmware stuff. There is pulsing led during sleep controlled by PWM currently which I am using on my GH60, so I would assume it would be possible to go the other way and have it go off when it is sleep and on when it is not.
Where is hasu? They are probably one of best people to give a true answer on the matter.

Thanks all, guess i'll stick with my none backlit kb's for now!

I would like a backlit one, but not if the lights have to be either on or off all the time.

you could always get a reg backlit keybaord and then reroute a touch of the power trace to a small panel mount rocker switch that you could install on the back side of the keyboard case.

the orbweaver just shuts the backlight off when the computer is in sleep mode.  The Naga Epic can do the same thing.  I think what he is wanting to do would be similar to the twilight sentinel on the headlights and dome lights in your car just resetting the timer for it on every keypress.  I have to admit that would be an awesome feature and if was available for the firmware to the phantom I would HAVE to use it.

What I want, is a backlit that will turn on when i'm typing. Then say after 5 - 10 min of not typing, it will turn off. So that the light won't bother me when i'm doing other stuff.

In all honesty, a backlit keyboard isn't even necessary. Maybe newer KBs may have it -- such as the Ducky Shine 3.

So like reactive mode with a very long delay for LED off. Yes that could be interesting.

I'm not sure where else they can innovate, the keyboard itself is already packed full of features o.o.

On my Apple Mac's the Ducky shine 2 illumination goes off when the computer goes in sleep mode same for lighted mice, and comes back on upon wake-up.

I'm actually a little surprised this isn't on any of the commercial back-lit MKs. Would be very nice, for example, when you're watching a movie.
