KeyCool 84 vs Noppoo choc mini 2013
« on: Tue, 30 April 2013, 07:38:35 »
Hi guys

I'm trying to decide between the

KeyCool 84
http://www.vendio.com/stores/E-sports-Gaming-equipments/item/shop-mechanical-keyboard-by-sw/key-cool-84-gaming-cherry-mx-s/lid=31782446

and

the new Noppoo choc mini
http://www.vendio.com/stores/E-sports-Gaming-equipments/item/shop-mechanical-keyboard-by-br/noppoo-choc-mini-mechanical-ke/lid=33437757

I've tried almost every mechanical keyboard brands out there.. and I currently own a ducky and a filco
but I haven't heard much about KeyCool or Noppoo.

I really like the layouts for these boards and I've been looking for a full white cherry boards for a while.
So I really want to give either brand a try.

Does anyone know which brand / board is better? or can you guys give me a suggestion for a similar board from a different brand?

Build quality overall they are probably pretty similar. Noppoo come with nicer stock keycap, but if you intend to replace key sets the Keycool has a standard size spacebar which will make that task a lot easier. If interested in backlight versions the Keycool has generally been reported to be better than Noppoo. If you intended to do any switch customizing there have been report that the Keycool casebody is glued together and very hard to open and easy to break while attempting to do so.

KeyCool! only because I have one. and the case of the KeyCool isn't glued together, or at least mine wasnt, there are tabs that you just pop and then remove it. though I will say the keycaps are... Meh... but If you're going to customize a keyboard.. then it won't really matter. Nothing wrong with the durability, just that I can see specks of black where the words are supposed to light up.

My review of the KeyCool 84. Great except for keycap printing.

:o I was wondering what the little plastic clip in the back was for...
Wireless sounds good in concept but how good is it for gaming??
Is there input lag when you use wireless?? (I will be playing keyboard intensive games like sc2!)

and also I thought they both use laser engraved PBT??? am I wrong?

Keycaps on the KeyCool probably are lasered. Near an active fault line at a guess.

I regret buying the Choc Mini (v2? 1.25x winkey row but no detachable cable) because of the unique spacebar as my first mechanical keyboard. If you don't care about replacing the keycaps then you're fine. Black is POM and white is PBT AFAIK.

THAT would explain the wireless case we currently are getting on the Qtan units. This will DEFINITELY be interesting if the existing 2013 models can be retrofitted.

The KeyCool 84 we have took a PBT spacebar from KBC with zero problem.

The newest model so far is without wireless, the Regular mini and M2 is different product, don't confusing it.

M2 is released as new product but it does not shipped yet. It will carry a new name.

The black one right now just has the wireless slot, but I believes the wireless module is no come with the board yet. However, it won't stop you to make one by yourself.
