The 30 Second Sound Sample Thread
« on: Sun, 05 May 2013, 08:33:17 »
How about a thread where we record approximately 30 seconds of keyboard use?
- List your board(s)
- Try include any unique sounds in the 30 seconds: For example, keys that sound different, hard bottom out, slow actuation.
- Enjoy the thread
- You can also post clicks and clacks from your mice.
- Bonus points for video

IBM 5576-002
These files are recorded  with a mild binaural effect so it's recommended you listen on headphones
Placebophile wav: https://www.box.com/s/cqfv9zadzyx9k9mdp70n
Generic mp3: https://www.box.com/s/1dcr1hsm600uvurk1tzf

Reverse the channels if you want to hear the board from the typists perspective. Coming soonish: MX Browns, Rubber dome (2x), Scissor Switch (Thinkpad), Amstrad CPC Keyboard.

What is that, a cricket or a squeaky fan in the background?

I don't have a fancy recording setup like yours, but I'll still record some typing.

Oh man, I'd use my condenser if I could, but it's all packed up. I'll go ahead and post up a vid of the FC660C here in a few.

Why not an old Atari?
I'll record some sounds from a couple of old keyboards later.

It's more than 30 seconds and the video's all grainy but whatever. Filco TKL with browns and thick PBT imsto caps. Recorded with a Blue Snowball. Also did a few clicks & swipes with my mouse - the Qpad 5k.

Oh man, the space bar reminds me of an old rubber dome board I had that had about 400 brackets holding the space up

This is about as good of a recording as my mic will allow (at about a foot away from the board). Anyway here's my plate mount aluminum poker with mx clears. Cycled through the modifiers clockwise starting with backspace, then some 1x keys on each row. Typed out a sentence twice, once hard with a good amount of bottoming out, then trying not to bottom out. The case has a hollow-ish spot near the usb port, which leads to keys near the ~ having more reverberation than the other 1x keys. If anyone wants I could try mx whites before I send off the stems to WFD (which probably won't be too soon).

Hi again, everyone. Looking for info on what buckling springs this typewriter board is using. The internet says it could be either a model F or Model M. The board is dated at 1984, which means it could be either.

https://app.box.com/s/17utmz76zh9qh0agquln

It sounds too metallic to be a model M switch to me. What about you?

Why not an old Atari?

That's the Futaba low-profile linear switch, btw. The Atari 800 and 800XL came with a lot of different keyboards.

Neither 30 seconds, nor good recordings, but in case these are of any use to anyone, since they're all recorded with the same crappy mike and in the same environment (they're all far too quiet, but I don't know audio compression):

Tulip ATK 030244 (blue Alps)
Filco Majestouch FKBN105MC-UKB (Cherry MX blue)
Filco Majestouch FKBN105M-UKB (Cherry MX brown)
Matias Tactile Pro 3 (Fuhua white)
Psion LAP 53 (Psion 5 keyboard) — buckling rubber sleeve membrane

Here's a wheelwriter when it is turned on :) This is recorded at 2/3rds the volume of the other clips, just FYI. The rattling you can hear in the front is the Model M keyboard that operates it.

I AM LAZY. HERE IS MINE.

This sound is most accurate for what you will hear in an office environment. Which generally is what most folks want to know - how's it sound there.
